"They just mean ghost in Japanese and Korean respectively."

"Oh.  ...I do think it should also sound evil.  Because it is."

"Why? Actually why are you a different kind of ghost?"

"Because I performed a ritual with my parents' sacrifice as the power source, and it lasts past death."

"Oh. ...okay I can see why you'd want an evil name for people who do that in general."

"Right?  Yeah, it just makes sense."

"Still think your circumstances were very strongly mitigating. I don't know that I wouldn't have had my father killed at any point if I thought I could get away with it."

"I thought the magic would help me with that part."

"What happened? If it's okay to ask. Like how'd, uh..."

"I had a survival bag ready to go in my treehouse.  I had an ax.  I—got my mom's head off, but it woke my dad up and he yelled—and I killed him, and did the ritual, which doesn't take very long, but it felt very intense in a way I didn't expect, and I didn't know whether anyone had heard him—so I was deliberating, in their room, whether there was a way to clean up the evidence, I had a whole plan for that part, and trying to get myself together—and then I heard the sirens, and ran out back to get my bag, and I slipped on the way back down."

"Why an axe? Wouldn't, like, an overdose of some kind have worked better?"

What? Jake literally said he might've killed his father if given the chance, he's thought about it, sue him.

"In probably several ways.  But I didn't want to be suspicious to librarians."

"...right, no way to Google that."

"...Can you just find out how to poison somebody on any computer without anyone else knowing?"

"Well, you know, the government's spying on every computer on the planet—every government is, probably—or at least the rich ones—definitely the American one—I'm like sixty percent joking but forty percent not, you'd need to be sneaky about your Google history so no hackers found anything. But also it's, like, everyone knows how to OD nowadays, I think. Just get a lot of Tylenol, that'll kill you good. Doesn't even need to be a lot a lot, that's actually a problem, Tylenol's OD dose is way closer to its medical dose than, like, meth's. Might want to buy a burner phone and Google how to OD on Tylenol on it and then get rid of it if you want to be really sure."

"Maybe other people can't just buy burner phones," he allows.

...yes, he knows that's not what Jeremy's face was about. But also he's finding this really fucking funny.

"I guess this is probably good, even if I wouldn't think so if I didn't know about ghosts."

"I'm not actually planning to kill anyone, the only person I'd want to is across the world from here and also the richest man in Korea and I don't even have a reason to want to anymore, I'm free here and being Samsung's heir is probably going to actually be helpful for the project of revealing ghosts and magic to the world at large."

"I really didn't think you were.  I'm just thinking about—the world."

"The world?"

"I mean, it would maybe be better if people had to interface with a librarian or something to learn about poisons.  Except that if the knowledge is widely accessible then maybe that means fewer ghosts spending their afterlives with axes stuck in their faces."
