"Wonderful! I'll have to introduce you to the enclave, of course. And it's not guaranteed you'll get in if there are other candidates. Nonetheless, welcome." 

She smiles like she's doing Anastasia a favour.

"Oh. I— I don't know if."

Her bottom lip curls into her mouth, teeth sinking into it. She feels like she is talking to a police officer and if she says the wrong thing she will get arrested. How does this girl have her so much on edge when the other enclaver didn't?

"Do I absolutely have to meet them?"

"There's only one other freshman like me who you'd be doing maintenance shifts for, relax. You don't have to meet them but they do have to agree to let you handle their slot."

She didn't agree to two shifts. I mean she did want more than just hers and one other, so it's fine. But still.

"Okay. Thanks."

"It's no trouble. Thank you for your service. What was your name again?"

"Anastasia Kravtsova."

"Glad to meet you, Anastasia. You can sit with me at lunch today."
