"I should probably check with an oracle first but it sounds like a good idea to me."

"An oracle?"

"Oracles can communicate directly with Jovah in a more sophisticated format than singing for weather; they write him messages and he replies."

"Ah. He doesn't take audiences?"

"Not in person, no."

"You can email our gods but you can also go climb Taniquetil or yell at an ocean and they'll say hello. Thanks to Ambela. She worked very hard on them."

"Email?"

"Ah, write a message using technology."

"Ah. There's three interfaces, one for each Samarian province, and an oracle in each one. I spent a year with the oracle Peninnah once."

"Do the interfaces require specialized knowledge to operate?"

"Yes, they're in the settlers' language and a little fiddly to use even if you can read that fine."

"Settlers' language?"

"Samaria was settled hundreds of years ago and our language has changed a lot, but the interfaces haven't. Oracles are people who receive the ability to read the settlers' language. Usually an acolyte of an existing oracle but not always."

"I wanna learn it."

"You're not usually supposed to go learn it on purpose."

"Would Jovah squish me?"

"Jovah would not squish you, you would just offend people."
