Daya feels like she's made good use of her first couple hours here - she reminded all of the Jaipur upperclassmen of who she was, she pointed out some obvious maleficers to the other freshmen - there are a lot of them, so many that she's not willing to assume that she's reading people correctly, but it's best to at least be extremely cautious - and gone on supply runs to get paper, pens, pencils, and some alchemy and artificing supplies (which she doesn't have much interest in herself, but of course she's more than willing to carry supplies for the other Jaipur enclavers, some of whom do).
She wants to make connections at some of the other powerful enclaves, at least enough to trade resources later. She'd been planning to talk to Shanghai, but she's pretty sure Shanghai is the enclave with the obvious sobbing freshman, and honestly they look... kind of pathetic? That's not a kind thought, she can hear from the yelling that he's distraught over his brother's death. But it still makes her want to look for someone else, at least until the Shanghai enclave is a bit more prepared for visitors.
Instead, she sizes up New York. And, oh, is that -
She approaches the New York table with the air of someone who considers herself obviously worth their time. Specifically, she approaches the one who keeps eyeing various parts of the room like he's hoping for something suspect to be there.
"Are you looking for mals?"
