Sixteen hundred dorm rooms, on two levels, with periodic bathrooms and periodic hallways and periodic mals, make up the freshman dormitories.

Jian wavers on her feet but doesn't throw up. It'd be convenient, though; her floor's grating over void. Delightful. She sets her mice on the dresser and drains one to set up a ward around the rest. If some mal gets into the cage, she's fucked.

No more malia this week. She's abstained for the past two.

She's in 16B. She can remember a two-digit number without investing in fucky memory tricks. She locks the door and heads to the cafeteria. She doesn't have letters, or anything, and she's not very dehydrated, but she might as well... what was that English word? Schmooze.

Lao's room has a void wall, into which he retches immediately. Then he picks himself back up. He wants to beat Jian to the cafeteria. Then he can be insufferable about it.

294B. He's got a pen with which to write it on his upper arm. He heaves his backpack a little higher and heads out.

Wow! He's in a place! Cool!

That wall is incredibly weird.

Okay, so he should probably remember his dorm room? It's a really nice perk to have a home base that he doesn't have to fight the dogs for. 351B.

Everyone is telling him to go off to the cafeteria. Out of a sense of spite, he wants to go somewhere else, but for lack of anywhere else to go he's going to head to the cafeteria.

Lan Wangji arrives in his dorm room. 346A, void wall. He puts the number in the memory palace he constructed to remember vocabulary words and characters; he'd probably remember it anyway but paranoia will keep himself, and more importantly Wei Ying, alive.

No Wei Ying. Just a bunch of white people. He heads to the cafeteria. Wei Ying may or may not go to the cafeteria-- he's as likely to wind up in the library or somehow floating on the ceiling-- but it's the most likely place to start looking for him.

Wei Wuxian's stomach is too well-behaved for him to vomit.

Corner room! Awesome. Short walk to class, slightly higher chance of mals, but whatever. He's always late to class anyway and he hasn't been eaten by a mal yet.

"Okay, little cockroaches," he says. "Time to get set up in your new home. I'll take good care of you before I brutally murder you for magical power!"

Once he gets them settled, he heads to the cafeteria. He completely forgets to note down which room is his.

Obviously he spends the first five minutes on his knees vomiting.

(--she's alive, she's alive, she has to be alive, if she were dead there would be a hole in the universe that nothing would ever be able to fill so she's alive, she's alive she's alive she's alive she's alive--)

Wen Ning spends the first three minutes of his arrival at the Scholomance on his hands and knees throwing up from the induction, and the next seven minutes on his hands and knees throwing up because his floor is the endless featureless void.

He likes to put a positive spin on things but he feels like this is really not the way that he would prefer to die. He thinks that if he is going to die he should at least not have vertigo for the last six weeks of his life.

(Wen Ning is trying to be optimistic.)

He makes a note of his room number (64A) because jiejie* will ask and then makes his way to teh cafeteria.

Okay! He survived induction. That was not the most dignified few minutes of his life but he'll live.

278B. He's not near the stairs, which is good. He has a longer walk to class but he can get da-ge* to walk him to class, that'll be easy, all he'll have to do is cry a little bit about how scared he is and frankly he'd be doing that even if it wasn't the best way to get da-ge to give him anything he wants.

(He wonders if someone else has discovered da-ge's poorly hidden soft heart. He wonders if there's competition. He's sure he'd win, if there was; he had his da-ge first.)

Lower level, which he doesn't love; it's closer to mals. He's not sure how to think about it being in the inner ring. More central seems good; relationships are how he'll survive. He hopes he's near someone who has a thing for saving people.

He heads very very carefully to the cafeteria. With any luck, this will be his last time leaving his dorm room without da-ge accompaniment for the next two years.

Dunya stares into the void for a 10 seconds then retchs. She stares for 20 seconds longer before she can tear herself away.

She makes to the door and checks the number. Looking around she's not in the worst spot but not in a good one either.

She wanders off muttering her room number to herself looking for others.

Huang's room, 777B, will be easy enough to remember, which is good because she has only begun drilling the Arabic and Latin characters for this purpose in the last week - other catchup took priority - and might have mixed up another number. She nods at it and accompanies everyone else, sword on her back.

Tintin lands in his room and feels - great, actually? He has never been on a rollercoaster but if that's what they're like he's going to try one when he graduates.

He ignores the voices shouting to head to the cafeteria in favor of unpacking his kit and cleaning Milu. Once he's satisfied that his best friend is in good condition, he reassembles the pistol and heads out with the other stragglers. (And locks his door. 492A - he's not sure why, but it feels auspicious, and it slots easily into his head.)

-okay the landing, he wasn't prepared for! Tomonori throws up, but luckily he has a convenient wall for doing that. It looks as disorienting as promised. He cannot quite squash the desire to study it, but he can easily squash the impulse to stick his hand in it. His self-preservation instincts are at least that strong. Good. He checks to make sure that everything else is- fine. He checks that his glasses survived his arrival- good. That's the most important thing. He can show them to people and if they're impressed, maybe that means he could do artificing (or maybe alchemy, if they're not impressed). Tomonori spends the five extra minutes to memorize, recite, and write down his room number (788B) before following the general throng of people bound for the cafeteria.

Mei sticks the landing and looks around her room. This box is where she'll be living for the next four years, better get used to it. She unpacks a few personal items from the top of her bag, sets an extremely basic ward on her door, and heads out. 700B is a nice, round number. On her way to the cafeteria she imagines a fishmonger shouting about his seven hundred fish.

This is literally the most vulnerable moment of Jinye's life, which is why she draws her knife and spins to look at the room the instant she lands. The nausea is manageable - they all took pills before they landed - but she has no mana until she can draw on the power sharer, and for five seconds she's watching the door, wondering if the attack's going to come now or later. Void wall - bed - drawers - if the drawers have a trap it hasn't gone off yet -

The answer is "later." She sheaths her knife, checks her room number (433a, single drop from the low perfect then hold it) and, counting primes for mana to help fund her cheapest detection-wards, heads to the cafeteria.

I'm here.

Cai Xian's life will now begin.

He starts in 759a with a void floor. He'll end in a graveyard or as ruler of the Earth. Let's find out which.

He heads to the cafeteria to gather his army and begin his life anew.

Qiu Yazhu is a highly-trained Taipei sorcerer and she will never forgive herself that she vomits into her void wall, in spite of her antinausea pills. Fortunately she misses her shirt, and in a moment the signs are gone, the mask is up, and she's ready to go out into the world. She's 668b and will never make such a shameful mistake again, because she is going to be perfect.

Huh. Scholomance. Wu Zhewei wanders out and off to the cafeteria, because he knows what he's doing, he's been drilled to it, and while he does he glances back and sees 642a, which isn't quite as easy to remember as 640 but is still not that hard.

Taiyang hasn't been ambushed and murdered yet! Her plan is WORKING!!!

Well, the day is young. She's 314a and she's going to the cafeteria!
