Sure! She'll forward the intel as she goes, but for now...

Let's get that red light detection power, and go about poking around the riverside, focusing on the areas around the port(s). Miss Martian should be able to fly them around glowlessly, and being a bit more indiscrete is probably the better approach? Though their powers get tired out a little differently.

- On a whim, she see if she can make some sort of ruby 'lens' for this - see if she can use it to help the gain of the red light sense and/or filter out interference from the other colors, just by customizing the basic crystal structure right with her existing toolset. And anyways, worst comes to worst, she can always just use it as the foundation for a proper red light imbuement by cycling through some powers.

A fourth spark blooms to life within her.

Creating a ruby lens does help her focus — she can feel the precision available within her detection range increasing.

And, actually ... this smiling man in a suit and tophat strolling along the riverbank with a box under his arm is blindingly, incandescently furious.

- this is a wonderfully dorky monocle and it even works! She's going to get to make so many of these and it's going to look cooool.

She sends over what she sees to Miss Martian - being angry isn't a crime, of course, but it seems like as good a candidate as any to check over. Can she get a sense of what he's thinking and if he's on anything? She'll take a bit of a closer look too, if she can do it without getting into his line of sight, see if proximity and poking her sense of the other colors gives her anything more to work with.

Normally, her empathic light abilities would not suffice to pick up on any of the man's detailed thoughts. In this case, though, he is helpfully mumbling them aloud under his breath.

"... not even the decency to make it into cakes. But I will! Yes, with frosting and little sugar flowers — and maybe some blackberry scones. But none for them!! Because they are hogging the big flour from their big flowers, yes they are. No cakes for them. I'll show them a party they'll never forget. Heee he heehaha!"

:His mind is pretty messed up,: Miss Martian opines once Topaz points him out. :I'm not actually sure what he's planning. Something about putting hats on giants and grinding their bones to make his cake. And about finding someone called 'Alice'.:

She furrows her brow.

That... probably implies that he's either a supervillain or a schizophrenic (or both)? She's not sure that that actually meets any particular standard for being like, an imminent harm for others, given how wonky what he's trying to do is, he's so - boiling angry that it's entirely possible that he'd be... a problem, there.

<Want me to try to talk with him? I don't see any reason why he'd be involved in the venom trade, but if he's seriously mentally ill and that angry, there's a decent chance that he's a risk to others. On priors, he's probably just a schizophrenic off his meds, but could be something wackier, I suppose.>

:I think we probably should talk to him, yeah, even if he's not directly relevant to the mission. And you probably have a better chance at it, out of all of us, given ...:

She glances over at where Superboy is glowering down at the city.

An impression of a nod.

A deep breath, a little bit of reframing of her thoughts...

She tucks her little eyeglass into a pocket, and floats over slowly, bathed in a soft blue light, hand tucked by her side.

There's someone she can maybe help, or at least a problem she can solve. She can be strong, and brave, and listen, and try.

"Hello. I couldn't help but overhear you - is there anything that you can do to help you or... your party?"

The man examines her, tilting his head one way and then the other.

"Hmm. The right shape, perhaps, but — do you dye your hair?"

...She might as well?

"Nope! Tweaked my body around a bit but there's no 'dye' in the mix, per se."

"Disappointing," the man declares, starting to turn away from her. "The only use you'll be to my tea party—"

He flips open the box under his arm with surprising speed, revealing it to be a hat box containing a black beret. He grabs the beret and spins full circle to try and put it on her head.

"—is as another guest!"

Eep?

She floats backwards a little bit - it's maybe a bit much of a reaction but strange men quickly moving their hands at her head is in fact something that she's hoping to avoid!

Um think there's probably some words to say -

"We haven't confirmed the date! How am I supposed to know if I can be available until I have a date and a time and proper invitation?"

<Can you tell if he's feeling hostility at me in particular, incidentally? Trying to handle this coolly but he seems like he might just be too aggressive to deal with talking right now...>

:No, he — he just has learned that this is how you invite people to a tea party?: Miss Martian responds, sounding confused. :That can't be right. Let me follow the chain of associations ...:

The man stops and blinks, beret outstretched.

"Oh, quite right, quite right, my dear. How indeed? It isn't always teatime anymore, you know. They took it away and dreadfully complicated my schedule."

He tucks the hat under one arm and leans in conspiratorially.

"I think it was the Duchess. She's always trying to poison me, but I'm wise to her tricks. No pepper in my tea!"

She nods along, a little furrow in her brow.

"Hardly a fitting spice for tea of all things."

<Might not be good to poke too deeply? But up to you, of course. Might be good to see if we can call local social services - see if they know anyone who fits the description so we can know who might be able to help him? Think I can keep him talking for a little while longer...>

"Certainly not! But she wouldn't listen. Duchess, I said, said I, you've been very naughty. And she told me that if I wasn't going to finish my tea I couldn't watch the news about the giants, either, but I asked her very nicely and she smuggled me out under her coats to meet the giants. She's dead now, of course — no hat."

:Topaz — that's probably Jervis Tetch, otherwise known as the Mad Hatter. He escaped Arkham Asylum recently,: Miss Martian relays.

:Oh, okay! So that means...:

Okay this is a bit harder to hope for than she was thinking, but he is definitely not going to get better and she... thinks it should be possible to grow out damaged emotional networks using a harmony of the lights to help treat people with problems like that, or transfuse will to make it easier to find certainities, or deal with it with indigo or blue healing and - she might not be up for that, right now, but she will be, some day fairly soon.

Okay. She glows a brighter clearer blue, and make her move.

She'll make a bunch of tentachains to try to bind him up, and pull aside his case in case there's anything else in there. Maintaining the constructs might be a little hard but Miss Martian can help handle things and she can probably forge some sort of impromptu cuff set-up with her generation power...
