Peter picks his brother up in a bear hug, even though Edmund is not nearly small enough for that anymore. "Edmund! Christ, when'd you get tall?"
"Put me down you great big bastard," Edmund says, and his face feels like it's radiating sunlight. "You got a letter," Edmund says, "and so'd Susan. Maisie brought them with her so make sure you thank her for them. How's it b-"
He stops himself. It's been terrible, obviously. It's the fucking Scholomance. "How's Su doing?" he asks instead.
"She's doing fine. I told Mum not to write me letters, it's ridiculous, I don't need updates on how Tom Higgins' dog is doing. I suppose I'll read it anyway, though."
"Yeah, I know, you're an island, you care only for the well-being of others, you have never had a feeling in your life-"
Susan stops by, still holding a water cup. "Peter, stop bullying your little brother. Edmund, stop bullying your older brother. And give me my letter. And a hug."
Edmund hands over the letters and administers the hug. "God I've missed you both," he says.
"We've missed you too. Every time there was an opening for someone to say something awful, we thought, God but if only Edmund were here."
"I'll have you know I've matured. Everyone was very impressed. Be nice to me."
"Go on. Socialize with the people you don't already know. We'll still be here."
Peter nods. "Need some help watering the sprouts?" he asks. "I've fulfilled my fraternal duties."
