If she's okay with the shorts having unicorns embroidered on them!

She's so okay with that, actually.  Any backpacks of sufficient size and quality to like, live out of?

Bulky hiker backpack with weird stain?

Ehhn okay.  How much does all this run her?

$45.

. . . How much of that is the backpack; if it's more than like ten dollars she's putting it back and she'll get like one of those reusable grocery bags for a dollar somewhere.  Or more than a dollar.  She doesn't have a good sense of how much inflation she should be expecting over four years.  Maybe she should just live out of the bags things come in for now.

Once she checks out from there she heads to a Dollar General or equivalent to pick up deodorant and a toothbrush and other things in that approximate category of necessity, and finds somewhere secluded, checks it even more thoroughly than she usually does, and teleports back to Millie's apartment.  She brushes her teeth and hair and spends the rest of the time till Millie gets back moping in contemplation.

The backpack is $11. She can keep the bag the rest of it comes in if she wants. The Dollar General has everything she needs if she doesn't mind smelling like lilac.

Millie gets home when expected. "Hi! How are you doing?"

Lilac's fine and yeah she will make do with these bags.

"Good!" chirps Judy.  - Possibly she should tone that down a little for believability's sake.  "As much as can be expected.  You?"

"Oh, same old. Except people kept asking me how I was doing and I couldn't say anything about, uh, getting hit by a car and having a vampire crashing here, so I think I said something about my mom? I don't remember."

"Not being able to say what's really up to people is really rough, yeah.  What's your job like?"

"I'm a hotel receptionist. I'll find something better when I'm out of school."

"That sounds kind of cool though, at least as like a medium-term thing.  What're you studying?"

"Well, uh, hospitality, but you can actually manage a hotel with that."

"Neat!"

She shrugs. "I didn't want to major in English or something, I know I'll need a job."

"That makes a lot of sense.  I was going to go into medical research before, viruses, and then had to switch for - dumb world-saving reasons - but I guess I don't have to worry about that now, and doing direct healing is probably even better for the things I wanted anyway."

"Better how?"

"Well, I didn't want to be the regular kind of doctor because - it's not that there's enough of them, really, but I wasn't likely to make a huge impact.  But from what I saw earlier it seemed like my kind of healing might be different enough here that I could actually have an effect at scale.  Especially since I can get stronger at it."

"You get stronger at magic?"

"Yeah, by lots.  My teleporting range is way bigger than it used to be."

"Gosh. How big is it now?"

"Well, I haven't hopped the Atlantic yet, but I've gone further than that across the Americas in segments."

"Wow. Can you not do running water, would something bad happen if you stopped in the middle of the ocean for a sec?"

"I don't want to be like, wet?  Or in freefall above it, really.  - Sometimes I've gotten wet teleporting anyway, but not on purpose.  I could do it if I had enough of a reason to try, I'm pretty sure."

"Oh. Not a swimming fan? I like swimming."
