"Of course," he says, conjuring himself a sheath for the sword and then two passes. "These are good for the night," he says, "Though I'd like to get to my own bed now."

"Good night, Professor."

"Goodnight," he says before strolling off with Fawkes towards the usual exit.

"That was exciting."

"Yeah."

"Not what I expected this morning, but... We've got some good information and another horcrux down."

"Go us."

"We know about the Diadem, suspect the Locket... That makes for five known or suspected horcruxes, three of which we've destroyed."

"It seems more likely now to me that he was going for a numerologically significant number of both horcruxes and anchors... While every number up to twenty has significance, and many higher numbers do, the greatest collisions are among the lower numbers..." She sighs. "It's an active work, but - I think he likely has an even number of created horcruxes, an odd number of anchors - since his body counts as one - and one of the counts will be a multiple of three. An odd number of horcruxes could work, but would be more unstable... If he's not going nuts, I'm betting he made either six or eight horcruxes - six would be more in line with western traditions, which he seems to favor, and given his personal numerology, seven anchors is more directly significant for him... But eight horcruxes and nine anchors would probably be the most solid."

"But that's all guesswork."

"We can keep our eyes open for another one or three, though."

"It'd be really good if we could know for sure."

"I'm trying to find a way to do that... Especially since 'kill his main body and have him stop showing up' is demonstrably not reliable."

"But if he has to start a hunt himself if one of them goes missing..."

"He likely doesn't have an automatic sense of where they are, or if they're even intact... If he noticed that it was already missing, rather than noticing alarm wards being tripped, he's likely also checking on them..."

"And if there was a way to find them remotely he'd just do that."

"Unfortunate when it comes to us finding them."

"Yeah..."

Sigh. "We'll figure it out."

Suppose they'd better head for bed, for now.

She nods.

Fay can walk them to their dorm, if they'd like.

That'd be nice, sure.

She smiles softly and does so, wishing them a good night when they part at the statue.

And a good night to her as well!

Smile.

School drags on, as does the slow fight against Voldemort. In a little bit of interest, about two months later Bellatrix tells the Potter-Cantas after the latest Order meeting that she thinks she's gotten the Grimmauld Place library chill enough they can safely go through it - with her supervision, at least at first.

That'd be fun to explore.

Yeah! There's bound to be lots of cool books... Maybe some rare or unique ones, even.
