"...Separate beds, I think."

She moves over to shut the curtains on the window, and tap the glow-globe hanging high up by the door so it turns off.

"Goodnight."

"Works for me. Goodnight, Bys." She snuggles under the covers still wearing her clothes.

She doesn't sleep well. She's not sure why. Just... Aware that she's not alone, even if Thorn isn't really making any noise. She tosses and turns several times in the night, even taking a brief walk outside around midnight.

By the time morning comes, she is still tired.

Thorn wakes up when Bys walks past her to the door, but after a moment of disorientation she nods to herself and shuts her eyes again. When Bys returns it wakes her again; she makes a sleepy noise and rolls over, but doesn't speak.

Thorn doesn't have to sleep as much as other people; she's still well-rested in the morning. But still...

She stretches, sits up.

"Not the best night ever, huh. You woke me a couple times. I guess adventurers have a hard time dropping the instincts."

"...I think I can't sleep very well near other people. I was like this at home too. I kind of hoped I was over it." She yawns. "Two rooms in future, probably. Or a suite. Or maybe some kind of privacy divider."

"And here I thought we'd be saving money all over the place. Alas."

She runs a hand through her hair. "Back to the adventurer's guild, then?"

"Yeah, I think so. I might be kind of useless today unless I get a nap in. But I'll do my best. Ugh."

"I can give you the room for a bit and go explore on my own, if that'd let you get a nap in."

"...Probably a good idea, yes. Thanks."

"No problem. Promise not to dungeon without you."

She goes and wanders the town a bit to get familiar with its shops and layout.

In addition to the shops Abyssia expected to be present, there's a clinic, a non-eye catching but obvious from the inside brothel/tea house ('tea service in private room - ask the girls for prices'), a courier office, a 'witch hut' that doesn't bother to explain its services on the sign, a standalone fighting arena, potion stores with health potions (the weakest kind that just stopper bleeding and speed natural healing by a lot start at 10 copper) and household products like liquid soap or soup broth or allergy suppressant, a water pumping station at the nexus of all the odd pipes running around above street level, a temple to several gods, a schoolyard where kids and tweens are attending, a small harbor area along the river, several alleys that outline a small residential block all guarded by cutters, and a small theater advertising a showing of Yellow & Cyan, apparently a star-crossed romance.

Good. She feels more grounded now that she knows where the brothels and the likely-criminals are. Feels less like a tourist and more like she belongs here.

She'll stop in at the temple and pray for success on her journey, just in case anyone is listening. Abyssia's gods seem real enough.

If the gods represented in this temple are real, they don't deign to show it. A priest of Xersus would be happy to guide her through a prayer to Xersus Grovelord, though.

She will so pray.

Bys is likely to be done sleeping now, right? It's been a couple hours by her internal timesense at least. She'll go back to the inn and see if Bys is up.

Then she will pray for all the life in the world, the complex majesty of nature, and a short meditation on people's place in the world.

Abyssia is asleep, but wakes up with good grace this time!

"Still kind of tired but at this point, time to get on with the day. Let's get new rooms before going back into the dungeon, though."

"Alright," says Thorn amiably. "How's our finances looking? Did we make anything on that last dungeon run or was it all taken up by powder and bullets?"

"We made two silver after ammo. But we spent most of it stocking up, because I was really low after the ocean ruined half of it. I have just two silver left myself, I don't know how much you have. Should we keep a single pool of money?"

"I've got two silver, two copper, eight pence after my half of the room and assuming you stocked up on ammo for me. It might make sense for us to share party finances, yeah. It's not like I don't expect to consult you on expenses anyway."

"...I honestly think you'll keep better track of our money than me. Probably that should be your job."

"Alright, so we'll pool our funds and make a party fund and carry half of it each... Eh we're close enough, no sense in me giving you a copper four pence. I like carrying it distributed, makes us less vulnerable to pickpockets."

"I think I actually don't have two silver. The smallest unit I ws keeping track of was a silver." She blushes, then actually checks. "...I have two silver, six copper, nine pence."

"Okay, so we have seventeen pence, eight copper, four silver. Seventeen pence makes up another full copper, so we have five co- five pence, nine copper, four silver. We make about five silver on a dungeon run between the two of us, but we spend about two silver of that - correct me if I'm wrong - restocking on ammo and powder, and then most of a third silver on inn rooms. So each day we delve we make about two silver, at least at this level. Sound about right?"

"Sounds about right. Though if you leveled up seven times yesterday, I likely did as well, or at least a few times, and we can probably do the same thing as a pair, bigger share - or go deeper."

"Doing it as a pair has several advantages. I'm in favour."

Her lips quirk up into a smile. "Let's do it then. Once we have a little more money we can buy armor. At least for me, I don't think I'll be slowed down much."
