The next day Wei Ying absolutely definitely attempts to carry Lan Zhan some more for the next leg of the trip. 

Is Jiang Wanyin really going to allow this? Lan Zhan will not allow swooning to prevent her from putting her foot down if necessary.

He does not look thrilled about it, but it's the long-suffering not-thrilled look of someone who's already lost the argument. Repeatedly. 

“Wei Ying.”

"Yes?"

"Put me down."

Suspiciously: "If I do, are you going to try to walk on your broken leg?"

“Wei Ying.” Lan Zhan cleverly deflects the question with Sternness.

"Lan Zhan! I told you last night, my fever's all gone! Your leg, on the other hand, is still broken."

Lan Zhan scowls. “If you feel tired, you must stop immediately.”

She glances at her brother, who also scowls and nods firmly. 

"Aiyah, beset on all sides! Fine, fine, I'll say if I get tired." 

Wei Ying will be rewarded with a kiss on the cheek. 

...Well alright then. 

They make reasonably good time for having no swords, but Wei Ying gives in to her promise and calls a halt around midday. Jiang Cheng immediately insists she sits down while he goes to look for fresh water. 

Wei Ying considers arguing but then realizes that if she sits down this will result in Lan Zhan being in her lap. She sits. 

"Are you tired, Wei Ying?"

"Uh huh." Snuggle. "I guess I wasn't as recovered as I had thought...I'm definitely fine though! I just need a little time for my stamina to recover!"

"Mm. No more."

"Lan Zhan, we definitely have to get back to Lotus Pier!"

Lan Zhan knows that. She makes to stand up herself from Wei Ying's lap.

"What are you doing???"

Wei Ying grabs her by the hips and pulls her back down. 

Fuck that was hot that's cheating.

"This is unsustainable," Lan Zhan insists, a little breathily. 

"And you think trying to walk on that broken leg will be more sustainable!?"

"For Wei Ying!"

"Do you think I'm the kind of person who'll let you take care of me without taking care of you in return? I won't let you hurt yourself! You're really important to me, Lan Zhan."

She squeezes Lan Zhan protectively and buries her face in her girlfriend's shoulder.

Lan Zhan sighs and squeezes back. 

After thinking about it for a while, Wei Ying sighs. 

"Lan Zhan...if you're going to insist on walking, what if you lean on me? You can use your healthy leg to keep some of the weight off me, and I can help you keep off the broken one. But you have to say if you get tired too!"
