She's twenty-three, and this is Audrey's first visit to the Rose Bowers. A two week stay, complimentary through her government job on Arcbright. She's alone.
She's heard stories of the Rose Bowers, of the unrestrained hedonism that's its stock in trade, and its matchmaking, which is reputed to be excellent.
She comes in with trepidation in her heart. Her suitcase rattles as it bumps over the threshold.
Draw, place, meeple. "Speaking as the resident obligate sadist, I think you can have more kinds of fun depending on how many things you try. I've been annoyed at my wiring for being so focussed in the past."
"Mmmm, mixed success. I can sort of enjoy it when my partner is enjoying themselves, but it doesn't get me hot like when they whimper in fear." Draw, place.
"No actually, she's very much not one. She just loves me that much." Rose smiles softly to herself as she places her next tile.
"Oh. Oh wow."
She places her next tile not really paying much attention to where it goes.
"It sounds like you're very lucky to find someone who loves you that much." Draw, place.
"Especially among devils. Scythe and I - we're not quite one-of-a-kind but we're close." Draw, place, score.
"There's nothing entitled about it. Scythe just... gave me her love, all wrapped up with a bow on it." Draw, place.
"Does that... really work that way? I guess I mean to say, how did you earn that gift?" She places another tile.
"You don't earn gifts, Audrey. Not real ones. Except maybe by being the kind of person who deserves them." Draw, place.
"Good. Surprising. Scythe is good at that. I won't get into private details." She slides another tile into place.
