Julen walks over to the grate and slowly heaves it off. It's quite heavy but he manages eventually.

"Which way from here? Maybe a clockwise rotation around the rooms?"

"As you say."

They came in from the south, so clockwise would be to the west. Julen should presumably lead, as always.

Stone counters line the walls of this chamber. An additional work slab sits in the center of the room—all of these countertops are cluttered with beakers, jars, tubes, tools, and all manner of ancient alchemical equipment, many of them caked with strange encrustations of crystals, stains, or other residues. A particularly large urn of corroded-looking metal sits in the center of the westernmost countertop.

Were there ongoing experiments here when it was vacated, then? That's strange. They haven't seen any bodies, and preservation enchantments which would preserve experiment residue would probably preserve bodies. Earthfall might cause everyone in the place to die, with the constructs being repaired by the enchantments or something, but it seems less likely that it would also leave no corpses and leave the demons alive and healing. If they evacuated, though, why would there be remnants of unstable experiments left behind? Cleaning up if you're going to be out for a while isn't strange or shocking, the Thassilonians would have known it just as well as she does.

And as she has seen, touching alchemical creations without knowing what is going on can be incredibly dangerous. Yanor might be able to cure deafness, but only maybe, and a third circle spell tomorrow isn't actually cheap even if he can.

She frowns, puzzled. "I don't understand why we can see residue from whatever was happening here, so this area seems dangerous. It also seems valuable. Give me a moment to check for magic. Tomas, would the dispelling pool do anything to an unstable alchemical substance placed in it?"

Detect Magic.

Seven of the containers emanate magical auras.

"The dispelling pool would not do anything to an alchemical substance unless it is also magical. Even then, it will only disable the magical component."

"Some of these are magical." She points to the seven, and then resumes focusing to get at least their schools. That should be slightly informative.

There's three moderate evocation auras, a moderate illusion aura, a faint enchantment aura, a strong abjuration and transmutation aura, and a group of ten moderate abjuration auras.

"Moderate evocation, moderate illusion, another moderate evocation, faint enchantment, strong... both abjuration and transmutation, unless those are two auras overlapping? And that urn has ten different abjuration auras in it. No idea what each of them does. I propose we back out to the bedroom, have Lhín come in and carry things into the central room one by one, and take them in to the bedroom once we're reasonably certain they're safe. She should be able to handle enchantments and illusions fairly well, so the faint enchantment, then the moderate illusion. The abjurations might be unstable when moved, Explosive Runes is abjuration and they might replicate that, so I think the abjurations next. Evocations certainly might explode, so those last. Does that sound good? If exposure to air destroys the magic I expect we have little way to keep things safe anyway, she she will transport objects to the main room, open them in there, and signal me. We can wait a minute in case it explodes, and then Tomas can investigate for their actual properties."

And while she's thinking of that— "Also, Tomas, did you ever figure out what that lens from the troglodytes did? Sorry, entirely unrelated."

"That plan seems sensible. I did figure out what the lenses do. They're lenses of detection. They make you better at perceiving and tracking."

"Good to know, and possibly valuable in the future if this area remains full of traps and hidden objects. Shall we?"

She leads the way back to the bedroom.

The party follows her.

Zoom through the door!

She closes the door behind Lhín. Blast protection might be important.

Zoom into the other room! Grab the enchantment container! Zoom into the main room! Drop it behind the opened door, on the south side near the doors to the bedroom.

And... open! And dive around to behind the northern door, so there's a door between her and anything that happens here.

Nothing seems to happen when Lhín opens the enchantment container.

She waits a minute.

"If the substance reacts to air, I expect it would have so reacted by now. Tomas, whenever you wish, it is yours to examine."

Tomas peeks inside. "It's an elixir of love. Not what I was expecting. I'm somewhat surprised they bothered making them."

"Bring it in here, then, and we can proceed with the next item."

And she does. This time, she goes for the moderate illusion.

The container with moderate illusion has no observable effect when opened.

A minute passes.

"Again appears safe. Tomas?"

Tomas inspects the container. "It's a potion of displacement. That's actually pretty useful for me. There's a second circle spell called alchemical allocation that can reuse potions. It's not a wizard spell."

She nods, impressed. "Well, I vote it is yours to use as with the rapier, if you can make use of it. Bring it in?"
