"Yeah. It seemed stable to me. Thank you." She collects her stuff and puts on enough clothes to be street-legal without bothering with putting the soiled outer layer back on. "You wanna just run for the car? It's kinda cold but I don't want to put the rest of this back on. I hope you have grocery bags or something in the car to contain the mess somewhat."

"I have trash bags and some big towels to throw on the seats."

"Cool. You got everything there?"

"I think so? I don't see anything lying around, I handed off my gun to the crew guy and it should be boxed by now in the flatbed..." He checks, it is.

"Then...why don't you carry me out to the car?"

"Sure, can do." He scoops her up, places the seat towels one-handed and sets her in the passenger seat, visibly resists the temptation to kiss her, and goes around to his own side.

"I can put my hand on your shoulder if that won't be too distracting while you're driving?"

"That'd help, I'm perfectly used to multitasking while guiding from years partnered with June, please do."

"Okay." She does that. "I might snoop on some passing birds or something on the way to help with efficiency."

"It can double as checking what kinds of birds have good vision, sure."

"I have been doing bird research. A lot of birds people keep need a lot more space to be comfortable than people think. Though if we're getting several they won't be lonely at least."

"Are most birds social? I guess the flocking kind would be."

"Yeah, and most of the ones people keep as pets naturally live in flocks. It's easier to tame naturally social animals."

"That makes sense, they'd have more - openness to feedback from other organisms about how to behave, I guess."

"Yeah. They can adapt to seeing people as part of the flock in a way."

"I wonder if chickens would be any good for this, how well do chickens see?"

"They don't have good distance vision unfortunately. They can see different colours than people - their vision goes into the ultraviolet range.Apparently a lot of birds can do that. Budgies and parrots do have pretty good distance vision. And can also see in ultraviolet."

"I'm not sure I'd want to go with parrots for this, they're really smart and anything I'm going to leave lying around in a dungeon is going to be at least sometimes expendable even if it takes a few dungeons before statistics take them."

"Yeah. Full sized parrots are also big and hard to keep - you'd almost need to redo an entire room for several of them I think - so it wouldn't really make sense to use them for this. Budgies and similar birds are less smart than the big parrots I think. Parrots are also very loud, budgies are much quieter."

"But a parrot could defend itself pretty competently against Cricket and a budgie might be scared even if he didn't specifically menace it."

"Maybe it would be better if I had a place big enough to house birds myself. A two bedroom condo might do for budgies actually, I could just use the second bedroom for bird cages. Though I also don't have a car to transport them in."

"If you were close enough to me I could pick you up on the way to dungeons in the truck. Or you could get a self-driver."

"I'd have to look into the local condos and their pet policies."

"I'm sure there's someplace appropriate. What will you name your flock of birds?"

"I'll have to pick some things out. Maybe I'll name them after figures in the history of aviation."
