"In the Oculory in Mzark's Tower," she murmurs.

"How can we get there?"

"It's in Blackreach, through the Gatehouse."

"What is Blackreach? Are outsiders permitted there?"

"It's a cavern network shared by several cities. Only Dwemer are permitted within."

"Give me a map of Blackreach, showing the path from here to the Tower of Mzark."

She mechanically pulls out some paper and a quill pen, sketching out two rather minimalist maps - through the city to the Gatehouse, and then through Blackreach.

Elana takes them and passes them to Lace.

"Forget you drew these. Forget we spoke of Blackreach and the Tower of Mzark. When we depart, you will remember only that we spoke of secondhand visions, and you deemed us to be lying or fools and escorted us back to the surface personally."

She frowns, distantly. "Alright."

"Return to your normal duties, and ignore us." she directs.

She nods, turning back to her desk.

"Ready for some breaking and entering?" she asks Lace.

"Sounds fun."

"Invisibility should get us to the Gatehouse, but after that we may need to get creative."

"Do we know how to get from the Gatehouse into Blackreach?"

"It is almost certainly an elevator. A cavern connecting multiple cities would need to be deeper than this."

She nods. "Hopefully we can hitch a ride with someone unobservant, then."

"Yes. Any other questions before I hide us?"

She shakes her head.

Invisibility time.

Lace memorizes the map before they lose access to it from invisibility, of course, then takes Elana's hand and leads her out and into the city's winding halls.

And all they have to do is not bump into anyone. Or open any doors. Or make too much noise.

Simple enough.

(Not really. But they can get into the Gatehouse without issue. The entrance into Blackreach seems hidden and not constantly accessed; they might have to hang around a while for someone to be going there.)

If it takes too long, they'll have to find an unobserved corner to recast the invisibility.

It runs to the point where that's a good idea, given they don't know how long the elevator ride down is.

Still, the dwemer are fond of pillars and side rooms and dark corners; they can manage, though it's a few tense moments.

And, shortly after Elana recasts the invisibility, an official looking group of three dwemer approach a mechanism at the end of the Gatehouse. Their identities are checked, they give pass codes, and then they place a strange mechanical sphere inside the mechanism. It whirls, and the platform changes, revealing an elevator down - roomy enough Elana and Lace should be able to safely stand in the corner if they can slip in.
