At least she's getting her money's worth.

Still, Lace does finish sooner or later.

"Are we ready to head out?" she asks.

"If you have all your sharps."

"I do!" She pats the sword at her waist. "I'm both fashionable and dangerous."

"A little ahead of the curve on fashion, if that smith is to be believed."

"I'll be a trend setter."

"Assuming you leave any witnesses."

"I might spare a few."

"And she is forward-thinking as well, my my."

"Dead people don't have a lasting impression of you! Rather tragic, that."

"There's always necromancy."

Giggle. "Can zombies spread rumors of your beauty, though?"

Elana considers. "Mostly they moan and shuffle. Possibly one could instruct them in an interpretative dance routine."

"Less than ideal, then. For that purpose, at least."

"They're mostly useful for soaking fire. And a moderately unimaginative early warning system."

"Well, I'm a prettier fire soak, I bet."

"Indeed you are. I have little taste for rotting flesh."

Snort. "Fair."

Heh.

And off to leave Solitude.

Lace has a bounce in her step on the way out, even as their road turns north - past the statue of Meridia, past standing stones and tiny mining villages barely clinging to the mountain, high into rapidly desolate land. Ice wraiths are the main threat along the path - the wolves who aren't down in more welcoming climes are ragged, skinny things - but Elana hears the slow, heavy heartbeat of a troll in a cave near the road at one point.

"Do you feel like fighting a troll?" she inquires.

Hum. "I don't really want to burn down my charges on my fire dagger too fast..." (She's been bandying around names for it, but hasn't picked even a 'maybe' yet.) "And trolls don't sound smart enough to be fun... But it might be good practice in case one ever surprises me, and I bet we could be smart about it..." She shrugs. "Guess I neither actively do nor actively don't?"

"Well, it's in a cave up ahead, so I suppose we could just walk past and see if it's hungry enough to attack us."

"Going off the path here feels like it'd be a pain in the ass, anyways," she says, nodding to the steep slope on either side of them.

"Not exactly easily navigable terrain, no."
