"Awww. Hmmm... She hates the texture of tofu and loves every variant of fried potato? She listens to a lot of instrumental music, I think... if I think of anything else, I'll text you?"

"- I was totally gonna feed her tofu, good to know. What else do vegetarians even do for protein. Fake meat, I guess, and... peanut butter. I don't think I'll be able to gauge when adding music will help rather than hurt if she's also got the noise sensitivity and can't manage the tradeoff on her own..."

"Cheese and fake meat and nuts and milk, but she does eat ground beef when she goes out." 

"Without knowing how she makes that tradeoff and pretty confident I could get her to eat a live baby if I tried I'm reluctant to push it. My mother was a vegetarian for three months once, we still have recipes, I don't think they all contain tofu."

"Oh dear. Point taken! I can text you her usual Indian and Thai orders, if that helps?" 

"Please do, and anything else you know her to eat, I saw a few things when I was hunting up a breakfast for her in her apartment but I couldn't swear to the brand on the fake meat or anything."

"Will do!" 

He was NOT expecting Cara to pass out on him and would like to keep Rachel talking a LITTLE longer. "What's her usual sleep schedule, is she allergic to anything - she won't be next week but it's not always clear exactly when that kicks in -"

"She's allergic to bee stings - 'in the painful way, not the deadly way', she always says, but it is pretty bad, not that I think you'll be encountering any bees, probably! She'll be glad to know she doesn't have to worry about that. She gets between 6 and 9 hours of sleep - she stays up pretty late talking to people, sometimes, but I'm not sure if that will really be relevant..."

Aunt Rachel can be easily lead to chatter more about Cara's mundane preferences for as long as Haru needs.

He doesn't need that long, he's getting guided and it's not long before he can go text Paula and Ren and Casey and then moderate his blog comments on the way down.

Then the phone call will end with a "And once again, thank you so much! Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need anything, okay?"

"Absolutely, thanks for everything, Rachel!"

Cara stirs a bit as he hangs up the phone.

"Mmmnmn?"

"You can sleep, it's okay."

"Mmmmk. Thank youuuu" aaand she's out again.

He sits there and Reads The Comments till he zeroes out, and then he works on blog post research.

She is conked and has no objections to this!

She can sleep for about 90 minutes. He orders Indian food.

She yawns, starts to stretch, and then notices she's flopped on someone and freezes.

"Hey Cara. Lunch'll be here in ten. Meantime I thought of a task for you."

She perks up slightly at the mention of lunch and much more at the mention of !Task! 

"What's up?" 

"I have somebody I need to look after this week and it is very important to me that I get it right. But I'm not telepathic so I don't know when my charge needs things. I need you to tell me. Can you do that?"

She thinks about it carefully, for a while.

"I'll do my best! I feel like... right now, I could do that reliably when asked, but - probably not proactively? It's... my needs are visible, but not salient? but earlier.... I was still suffering, but it was hidden, I couldn't see it even when you asked." 

"physically - I'm thirsty, I have a headache, and my legs are kinda sore, maybe from the stairs? And I'm very hungry" 

"Food's coming. Cups are in the cupboard above and left of the sink, go get a glassful for yourself, I'll get you some Tylenol. And I can set myself a reminder to check in on you periodically." He does this.

She nods and extracts herself so she can go get water, shivering as the guiding contact fades. "Do you have a name that I can use that's not your codename?"
