The Heralds and Council lords start trickling in. There are startled oohs and ahs.

:Did one of you do the walls and floor?: Shavri asks in Mindspeech while she's getting Randi set up. :It's gorgeous:

:Leareth did it, I haven't learned yet:

:I'm sure you'll pick it up soon! You two would be such a terrifying team if you weren't on our side: Shavri catches Belrun's eye, winks. :Which is a good thing to remind the Council of, I reckon:

:Crossed my mind: She pats Amshalan, asks her opinion on the accessibility.

Amshalan peers around the room. :I'd have trouble getting to the top risers, but it's not like I want to go there, it'll be all chairs and I don't sit in chairs. I like that the podium is Companion-friendly too. Not that I need a podium, what would I put on it:

:You can read, you could put notes there!:

:I can't write notes though, and I have an eidetic memory:

:You could write things on the reverse side and pick up the paper in your teeth and hold it up to display to an audience if you had a graph drawn for you in advance or something:

:...All right, that's a good point. Or I could have props. Pick up a sword in my teeth and wave it around to emphatically make my point:

Randi starts calling the meeting to attention.

Belrun giggles softly at Amshalan and attends.

Randi starts with a quick update from his side on how the rebuilding in Haven is going, then asks Belrun if she would like to add anything on how the enGifting efforts are going, or about her plans for the next couple of months.

"It's occurred to us that Gifts would fetch more in a less recently damaged city and it may be worthwhile to send someone to, say, Petras, put word out, bid up the price, maybe find deals on things other than pease to eat while they're there, and then call me in to do the work."

There are excited murmurs. Someone eventually raises the question of whether, in the long run, this will put Valdemar at a less advantageous position with Rethwellan for trade purposes.

"By what mechanism?"

They're not really sure, just, the general principle that countries are better off for having mages?

...Someone else brings up that the bigger problem would be if Valdemar ever ends up at war with Rethwellan. Do Belrun and Leareth have a confident plan for that not happening?

"I do not expect it - Rethwellan is in the same divine territory as we are, so they won't have outside prompting to any particular degree, and I don't expect it to be difficult to maintain friendly relations with them, especially if they stand to gain from our goodwill and interest in trade, which customarily does benefit both parties. Rethwellan has hundreds of mages, though, adding a handful now to build Haven back up would not affect their capacity very substantially in the long run. And it would serve to let them know that I have this ability, which I think might give them pause if they were considering cornering me about it suddenly."

That gets some thoughtful nods of agreement, and seems to convince them.

Someone asks if there are any updates on Leareth's scheme to make an avatar and talk to the god in question. Will other people also be able to talk to the god of Valdemar and Rethwellan once he's done?

"We spoke to the Shadowgod again yesterday," Leareth explains, "and hopefully that is the last time I will ever have to do it in the previous manner. I intend to start on the avatar tomorrow, and if all goes well it will be done by the next day. I do not see any reason why anyone could not use it, then, it is designed for that, but it does depend on the Shadowgod's desire to talk to people, and when They consider it worthwhile."

"I'm looking forward to finding out what They have to say myself, and certainly hope They'll be able to field inquiries. If They don't want everyone and their cousin talking to Them at all hours we can perhaps arrange some batching system and a - I guess it would be, technically, a priesthood - to collate and relay them."

This gets fascinated murmurs, and some speculation on what they could call the priesthood and how to select people in it. A couple of the new minor nobles from the temporary Council seem quite intrigued by the possibility of applying to be priests.

Randi calls the meeting to attention again after a few minutes. "All right. We should do a final vote on the timeline for Belrun and Leareth's wedding, and for the transition of power. Belrun, how many completed buildings are we looking to have in a month's time?"

She looks at her timeline. "This is optimistic because delays are far likelier than things that surprisingly make the work go significantly faster, but a month out we have -" She passes him the notes.

There's a lot of discussion. The conclusion of it is that planning a mostly-outdoor wedding for a month from now seems fine. Opinions are still divided on whether that should happen before or after the formal transition of power.
