Mitakihara Middle School is a modern marvel - enormous, enough for every middle grade student in the crowded town, and constructed entirely of steel and glass. Classrooms come equipped with all the latest technologies, and the school has a good reputation.
Akemi Homura has been assigned to one of the homerooms on a higher floor, a large room - walled with transparent glass like all the others - already mostly full of students.
Madoka's two friends beg off from their study group.
Where does Homura want to study? Madoka's house is very nice, if she wants to come over!
Madoka leads the way to her house, then! It's a good size, sleek and modern, and her father's home with her baby brother; he offers to make them snacks.
And Madoka would like Homura to join her in her room! For studying.
That's perfectly fine. Homura will do this while remaining perfectly calm.
Her room has posters of martial artists, and a wooden practice sword leaning against one wall, and is generally in a disarray. She pushes aside some notebooks so Homura can sit on her bed.
"Isn't studying while standing hard? I can also clear off the desk chair..." (It currently contains a laundry basket.)
Madoka... Actually maybe even intends to work on school stuff? She at least arranges some school-looking books and notebooks around her on the bed.
Homura finds this gratifying, because she Values Education.
It's genuinely pretty nice for Madoka to be saying things that Homura actually knows how to respond to.
"You're really smart, Homura-chan..." she comments at one point.
Oh no.
It feels like her ears have been set on fire but hopefully Madoka won't notice anything. Oh no.
"Mm."
She is, fortunately, completely oblivious!
She goes back to chattering about schoolwork.
This is a surprisingly bearable use of her afternoon.
Eventually she should probably go home for dinner.
