I'm so sorry.

I don't -

- it seems very bad if while you are trying to put yourself back together you are trying to put yourself back together into someone who'd belong in Arda. Since - the work in Velgarth isn't done, and there will be other worlds and other wars... we will want the thing Arda offers. And I don't think you have to be quite so - pinned into the only shape that could survive Velgarth, anymore. But I don't think you should throw away what you were, either. I think we'll still need it. And - I loved that person, when I met him. It wasn't because I thought the evils in the world were bounded by my imagination.

...Nod.

:I - had not been thinking very far ahead: he admits, finally. :I - still - cannot really think about - being able to fight other wars. But that makes sense:

It can be a very very long time, and you don't have to think about it now. We are not in a hurry. Just - don't ever try to be weaker for me.

:I will try not to do that:

The house will need plumbing and windows and a fireplace.

Plumbing is weirdly satisfying. Leareth isn't sure why he likes that part in particular so much but he does, and is reasonably good at it. In general he's finding it easier to work on projects for longer stretches of time, as long as all the component pieces are fairly simple.

That seems like a good sign, probably.

One day, to Maitimo's intense startlement, there is a dimly glowing white orb in the sky! He's not thrilled about it.

Leareth is much less startled. "I am not certain, but that looks very much like the moon in Velgarth. Were we...expecting a moon?"

"The Valar said they were going to put the fruits of Telperion and Laurelin in the sky! They didn't say what it would look like." He glares at it suspiciously. "I guess it's pretty. We're going to have to rethink the whole city..."

"Is there going to be a sun too?"

"Oh." Leareth smiles, tentatively. "I think you will find the sunrise very pretty. I am not sure when that will be, but the horizon will start to be lighter before it happens - the sun is much brighter than the moon. I - think I would like to watch it with you."

Leareth isn't sure when sunrise will be but he guesses wildly that it'll be timed for when the moon is setting, and decides to take a nap so he can be awake and rested at the expected time.

If he's not awake when the horizon starts to lighten he will wake him.

Leareth ends up being kind of groggy because it seems like his sleep schedule is not at all lined up with the newly announced day-night schedule, but he yawns and gets up and accompanies Maitimo to the cliffs to watch the sky.

The sunrise is beautiful. He is enraptured.

He takes Leareth's hand.

Leareth glances over at him, a bit startled, but doesn't pull away.

"It's so elaborate - does Velgarth really have this every day, no wonder the Valar wanted to imitate it -"

"We do! And then sunset too, which I think is even better."

"Wow." He flops backward on the grass to soak up the sunrise. "I guess we will have to watch that too."

Leareth flops next to him, a careful distance away; he feels less awkward but still a little awkward about touching Maitimo. "I would like that very much."

"How long does it stay in the sky?"

"In Velgarth it varies by season, actually! The total day and night add up to about twenty-four hours, but in summer the days are longer and the nights are shorter, in winter it is the opposite. I am actually not clear if Valinor had warm and cold seasons?"

"Some parts do, in the north and south, though Tirion doesn't. The variety is necessary for some ecosystems but it's inconvenient enough they didn't want to start us out having to deal with it."
