The Menadorian Dire Plane Shift Snake Thing is more than Blai is prepared to handle on his journey, so now he is somewhere else.

The Encompassing Grass Entity has shifted the ground out from under him. Now the sky's bright yellow, and the sand underneath his feet pitch black. For the moment all is still, but for a slight breeze dusting his feet in the sand.

...wow, he doesn't even have a guess. It's too pleasant to be Hell, too empty to be Axis... maybe it's the Boneyard, he supposes he didn't have any very strong beliefs about the color of the sky in the Boneyard?

If it's the Boneyard he should probably be seeking judgment at this point? Meeting up with the archons and trying to coordinate with whatever their project is?

He looks around, finds all directions equally uninformative, picks one, and starts walking.

The sand is course and sharp on his feet, a contrast to the smooth, fine sand Bai was used to on large deserts of his home. It made for quick walking. Over a few minutes, the sky to Blai's left grew just a touch redder, and the sky on his left bluer. To Bai's keen eyes, not a single pixel poked out of the horizon.

Blai is not actually used to deserts of any description and he's wearing boots, but he does note that the sand doesn't look like it'd be a pleasant texture. He veers blue-wards once he notices there's a blue-wards to veer.

As he strides towards it, the blue sky expands, accelerating, until blue light pours over the world. The sand, appearing black before, is now navy blue. That's fine enough, until the blue of the sky gathers itself up into the form of a pair of eyes and a wide crescent shaped mouth, appearing to point directly at Blai.

"I appear to have miscalculated", says the face in the sky.

"I'm sorry to hear that?" says Blai. "May I ask what is going on?"

"That would be a touch embarrassing, wouldn't it", said the face, smiling.

"You look a bit lost, friend. Mind introducing yourself?"

"I am Select Blai Artigas."

"A pleasure to meet you. I presume you are unable to return home yourself, and are in need of a sort of pact?"

"...I do not have a way to return home, but I don't know what you mean by a pact."

"I'll make it simple for you. You only need say these words, draw this shape around your feet in the sand, and you'll be off this world in no time" the face said.

A paragraph of some language written in the standard phonetic alphabet, along with a pentagram, condensed out of the blue sky under the face.

"...I'm afraid I don't understand."

"Oh it's alright dear. Take your finger and place it on the ground in front of you. Then drag it through the sand around you in this shape"

There was a little flash of blue around the pentagram in the sky, like fireworks.

The face's eyes grew larger, forming an interested, concerned expression. "Can you do that?"

"I believe that I am able to do this, but I'm reluctant to follow such opaque instructions while this confused."

"Around here, this is how we form pacts with each other. We bind bits of ourselves to this world, and in return the world gives us its energy. You see, the world is hiding itself from you. Once you bind yourself to it, the sand, the sky, everything you see will fall away and you will see this world in its true glory."

"This shape, it marks you to the world's attention, and the words just mean something like 'I promise to never harm this world'". We've all done it before, it doesn't bite.

"I take promises very seriously and don't know anything about this world. While I certainly don't currently have any intention to harm it I would like to know more before swearing myself permanently harmless to it."
