The village has only about two hundred people; still, they have enough beds and food for both women, and act friendly with Luc' as an extension of Shining Jubilation. The solar speaks to them some about how to prevent future problems with their graveyard, which they listen to keenly.

The solar doesn't seem to demand at all that anyone offer her gratitude or worship - even acts rather humble when thanked - but nonetheless it's clear these people are likely to join her cult.

Jubilee also keeps a firm eye on Luc' - smoothly enough it's not too obvious that's what she's doing.

Luc' is perfectly civilized, even offering to share out some of her candied locusts. They're a southern delicacy and quite hard to come by, both sweet and savory.

Jubilee makes a face at them; politely refusing to even touch any. The villagers follow her lead, only two politely trying the locusts before withering at the thought of standing out more from their fellows by taking more than one locust. Even if they are tasty...

Well, their loss.

Of course, it's also well past nightfall - there's an excited air when the two return, but people gradually and then quickly drift off back to their homes to return to sleep.

Jubilee doesn't seem particularly tired, and the beds found for them are both small, in the same room, but there's not much left to do other than sleep.

Luc' relaxes in hers, eyes half-closed, splitting her attention between answering prayers and waiting to see if Jubilee has any final words for the night.

Mostly just pleasantries, before she falls into a light sleep.

Probably too light to have a decent shot at killing her. Pity, that would greatly simplify things.

Luc' dozes off a short time later.

Jubilee's up with the sun, though she tries not to wake Luc' as she rises.

No need, she's awake as well.

(Got to at least maintain a pretense.)

"Are you planning on going your own way today, then?"

"Would you rather I stayed?"

"If you feel like following me around, I wouldn't stop you."

"I've never been much for following. And given the way you seem to casually trail aspiring cultists behind you, I'm not sure I'd survive prolonged proximity as myself."

"I don't use unnatural persuasion methods or anything, and I rarely change the mind of someone who didn't start out wanting me to convince them."

"I'm sure you feel more comfortable for thinking that, but these people are taking your food preferences for practically holy writ, in case you didn't notice."

"I did. If I wasn't here, I suspect they would have followed their midwife's food preferences - she's popular, and old, and wise. The village is pretty conformationist; those of their children prone to independence tend to leave for elsewhere."

"Isn't that a convenient story."

Rather than annoyed or affronted, she seems amused. "Convenient or not, it's the truth. Are you accusing me of something?"

"I don't think that would be a productive use of anyone's time."

"Likely not."

"Mm. I will still be going northwest."

"I'll probably keep wandering for a little while. See where my feet lead me."

Stretch. "Good luck in your travels."

"And you in yours."

Or trip on a root and break your neck. Whichever.

She grins in return.

"Hopefully our paths will cross again, someday."
