Meredith said earlier that the subject was upsetting; she didn't say it was so upsetting that it would just bounce right off her! "And for future reference, in general I will want to know, right away, when you haven't really been absorbing what I say."

How to make this not too much about feelings… "I'm not talking just for the pleasure of hearing my own voice, you know? I'm trying to actually convey information to you. So if you're not taking in that information, then I need to know that. Especially because… I was actually saying all that partly for your benefit. I was letting you know what kind of behaviour cuts ice with me, to give you some idea of how to get more of what you want. I didn't have to do that, you know? And it's hard to justify doing nice things that I don't have to do, if you're not even going to let me know when I'm wasting my time."
