It is Lucien's first time in space and he's nervous. This is not really the best sign considering that the reason he's going to space is to join Starfleet but presumable his nerves will settle and it will be fine. It's only a six-hour trip anyways. His nerves not particularly settled he sits down for the acceleration to warp, which is completely pointless given the inertial dampeners but it makes him feel better.
Despite all his worrying takeoff goes smoothly-
"That sounds like a neat premise - was it written contemporaneously with that practice?"
"I like the kind of book that's stood up to the passage of a century or a few of them and still gets recommended. I got this one at a used book sale, if you mean why now and not earlier."
"I meant the first thing. That seems like a good way to choose books - I read some classics in school and I tended to like them, though I've never really sought them out before."
"Whenever I had to read one for class I'd get distracted by researching the historical context for it, which on my own time I could do that without reading the book. I had the same sort of thing for world building in fantasy novels, but for those I the best way to learn more about the world was to continue reading, not put it down and search for an article on how lumbermills worked."
"But why would that make you not seek out classics, it doesn't sound like reading about lumbermills was a hardship."
"I would just skip to reading about lumbermills directly, without needing to start a book."
"Ah." ...the conversation seems to be drawing to a close. "Anything else you need to tell me before we hang up?"
