So long as they aren't making the others do any paperwork.

The paperwork rituals will be intricate, filed in triplicate, and strictly imaginary.

Works for her.

Excellent! Then, to work.

Hopefully this will allow the Third and Sixth to catch up with the Ninth before too long...

Which means she and Ellyn need to step up their own efforts.

Time to look at the final lab?

Now that Ellyn's had a chance to recover her iron stores.

At least at first glance, this one seems less dangerous than the last. Three piles of bone dust in front of five chairs set in a semicircle. The center three chairs are embossed with a skull on the back. Sitting on either of the outer chairs results in the soft clunk of a mechanism engaging. Sitting on an inner chair results in a sharp electric shock.

The obvious solution is to reconstruct the three piles of bone dust into three matching skeletons, have them sit on the inner chairs while Gideon and Ellyn take the outer...

Agreed, but Ellyn is pretty sure there are seven skeletons in these piles, not three.

Whole skeletons, or partial skeletons?

By existing volume, partial. But there's enough of each that she could easily spin a full body out of any of them.

See what works, she guesses.

First let's see how complete each one is...

For a lesser bone adept, this might be a laborious process, needing psychometric assistance to be confident in their results. But the Ninth does bones, and Ellynhark is the Ninth. At her command, the grains of oss spiral out, fusing together and blooming into their original, undamaged configuration. Seven skeletons assemble before her, in states ranging from 'mostly complete' to 'not capable of standing'.

Ellyn considers her work. "...I think you could get five complete bodies out of this, if you mixed and matched."

Try that first, then?

Sure.

Except that the first bone she tries to swap over blasts itself out as soon as she lets her necromantic grip on it go, like magnets pointing the same pole at each other.

Fascinating...

Can she fill in the mostly full ones with generated bones? The way she does for her constructs.

Obviously. That's baby stuff.

Ellyn's nose starts bleeding as extra bones refuse to form.

Okay, maybe not.

...Huh.

Is something blocking her - ?

It's like they're warded against it. Which is odd. Then how are they meant to-

Unless it is like magnets, and they just have to find the set of bones that matches up.

Gideon can take notes while Ellyn experiments? And if there's seven skeletons, but three chairs...

Paired up like lovers, maybe.

Or necros and cavs.

Worth a try.

She'll help keep track of what works or doesn't.
