"Well, if I can do right by everybody, then it's not tiring at all to have a very acute sense of them and whether I am doing right by them. If they had needs I couldn't meet -"

...Isabella almost makes a stupid joke, stops, says instead "Well, I'm not sure what you have on offer besides the empire that I couldn't get by asking nicely, but I can see about stretching my magic that way."

"Everything! Don't worry, most of it I get just by talking. The rest I can get by challenging you to elaborate strategy games, if I feel like I haven't puzzled out your mind sufficiently from talking."

"Elaborate strategy games."

"Is that not how getting to know people is done among humans?"

"Not by default, no."

"Well, then I'll win easily."

"That doesn't make it worse at figuring people out with?"

"If it did I wouldn't understand anybody at all, I always win easily."

"So what's the local getting to know you strategy game?"

"It's called Governor, want to give it a try?"

"Sure, why not, it can pull double duty as language exercise if it's as complicated as all that."

"It will definitely do that!" And she explains the rules.

"...So, if you always win easily, does that mean I'm allowed to cheat."

...yes, go for it. That sounds like the most fascinating challenge I've ever heard of."

Isabella laughs. "All right, but I will need the food redirected here to nibble while we play if I'm going to be doing even more magic."
