How do humans do it?

Mages can do immortality, but by default, yes, we die.

Well. We are immortal by default and are even more immortal in Valinor because if something does kill us the Valar bring us back.

Resurrection may be doable with my magic system but isn't a solved problem.

Maybe your world will want to invite our gods despite their shortcomings.

I suppose it's possible their virtues outweigh their drawbacks.

They do if they're well enough handled. It's what I do when I'm not running the country.

It is a delightful job and I feel very fortunate to have been born to it - I'm pretty sure I'd have maneuvered my way in anyway but this way was so convenient -

Sounds it. Most countries on my planet are phasing out monarchies at this point in history.

Democracies and republics of various sorts.

I have a very high opinion of my people but I'm better at ruling them than they'd be at it. And they agree with me on that.

My suspicion is that democracy outperforms the typical but not the optimal monarch. If you happen to be an optimal monarch far be it from me to suggest you decline the opportunity.

And monarchs dying would throw some complications into the mix.

Are there any other things you've noticed your world has which aren't present here?

I think astronomical features, roles, humans, psions and mages, money, and apparently democracy are all I've detected so far.
