When they head home it is even more obvious that all members of the group of Norwegian children consider Vigdis to be their leader. She asks them a lot of questions about what they've discovered here, and then instructs all of them to redouble their efforts on learning the local language, because they can't investigate a lot else about this place until they know that, and they're going to need to learn a lot about it if their father is going to have enough information to handle any of the complications this place presents. She herself spends a lot of time getting words out of Cassie (and Nova Girl, who she thinks is a pretty delightful person).
The other kids are calmer and a lot less sullen now that they feel like they're doing something useful here, although Tyr and Sigrun still don't like their mother much.
