"Well, there's nothing obvious, so it'd probably be some internal organ and then a biologist would come up for a word for it based on what it did or looked like."

I see.

She wants to collect more and more nouns, adjectives, and verbs, and keeps resisting learning additional grammar but will accede to learning a few more simple structures.

Kimya's happy to focus on vocabulary if that's what Bloom wants! Here are words for plants and animals, for buildings and streets, for furniture and clothes.

She could do this for hours.

She goes back and reviews of her own accord. She forgets a lot of words, but never misspells them when she does remember them, and never remembers them incorrectly.

She could do this for hours, but she still has to fix her feathers before sleeping, so after a bit more than one hour she asks about being about to do or having already done a verb.

Kimya will introduce her to future and past tense. "Usually new learners work in present tense for a while before starting to conjugate things."

I wanted to challenge myself to a useful writing task. Like so:

And she writes,

I learned. Thank you. I will sleep. Please.

"All right! Good night! I'll come by whenever Ruan says you're ready tomorrow."

I'm sure I will find a routine when I have been here for a while. Rest well, and may you be blessed.

She peers at one of the greys doing security for a minute, metaphorically squinting at a difference between her and Kimya, then camps inside the warehouse and preens her feathers for a couple of hours and sleeps curled up around her pile of shiny things.

All of the shiny things are right where she left them thanks to Baravi's hardworking greys and the fact that no one decided to try to steal them today.

She paces a bit and sits and thinks a while after sunrise, then goes and finds Ruan.

I would like to go somewhere. Hospital? Another train station, or perhaps the same one? And this evening could I perhaps visit an undeveloped area of some kind, or an especially large park?

"There's a hospital ready for you! How undeveloped is necessary - there's a hiking area up in the mountains, but it does have some plumbing and access roads."

I want solitude and quiet. Cities are... Overwhelming. Too much to listen to forever. The gentle tones of stone and trees and wild birds will let my mind relax again. If there is a spot that would have no Amentans or electricity for a mile or two, that would be acceptable. I spoke with Seeker to determine that I can fly at one hundred forty miles per hour, and a flight to and from such a place will itself be calming.

"Okay, I can find you a place that doesn't even have plumbing and access roads within flying distance by the time you're done at the hospital."

Thank you. I may decide I want to sleep wherever you find if the city gets too grating. My dreams were... Strange.

"I'm sorry to hear that. I'll make sure it's a place where it'll be all right to sleep."

Thank you. Shall we go to the hospital?

"This way!"

Some of the route is the same but then they turn and here's a hospital - mostly grey patients, and some purples. They've roped off a waiting room with big enough doors for Bloom to get into and when she shows up they wheel in some volunteers.

What-all is wrong with them?

Broken leg; head injury; complications of a metabolic disorder.

Hello. Oh my, you have very sophisticated ways of tending to wounds... I don't think the general Song will help you much, She tells the last. Some more specific magic might but it would be foolish to try to invent it right now.

"That's okay," says Metabolic Disorder Patient. "They just said I could try if I liked."

I will begin. It will take a while. Feel free to do other things.

Her eyes close and her head stills and there's a... Feeling. A sense of refusal, rejection, stubbornness. Endure, it seems to say.

She takes a break after twenty minutes.

Doctors? Ruan? Now would be a good time to see what the effect is. It should be noticeable, if nowhere near complete.

The doctors wheel the patients away to examine them in rooms with more equipment!

Their pain is reduced some. The broken bone has a week's worth of healing. The head injury swelling has gone down a bit. If the metabolic stress is soothed, it's not immediately obvious. All three have noticeably better miscellaneous chemical signs and feel more rested and energetic.

A nurse comes by to report all this to Bloom for her information.
