Cricket peeps out the cab's back window to eye the dragon. He might want to eat it.

The dragon peeps back. If the prospect of being eaten has crossed its mind it doesn't show it.

Presently Cricket is diverted back to his conversation with May.

They were not especially near Toronto, so it's a longish drive. May makes a rest stop for gas. "You want anything?" she asks Lucy.

"Yes, please, but I'm not picky."

May goes and spends kind of a weirdly long amount of time in the convenience store and comes out with potato chips, a bottle of apple juice, and a banana. "This work?"

"That's great."

...Lucy has a lot of components from very low-tech societies and she is just so not inured to the fact that you can get tropical fruits like bananas just. Anywhere. Landsailor sail on time...

May packed snacks for herself and has them in the car already. There's a little cooler with some treats for Cricket too.

Eventually they are in Toronto proper, and then the garage under May's house. It's a big garage, with room for the pickup and also a cute Prius and also what may be a weapons safe.

Lucy doesn’t inquire about weapons. She’s not great with anything except her wand. …She could handle a dagger, probably? This is so not important.

"This is my and my mom's place. I need to go debacklash with my partner for a couple hours but would be happy to put you on the landline here on a call to my cell if you have more questions or speculations about the multiverse or anything!"

"That would be convenient. --And because of how your backlash works this would be convenient for you too and not an imposition, right?"

"Yep, if I'm not talking to you I'll just have to bother somebody else!"

"Cool, in that case I will absolutely take you up on that."

May gets her set up on the landline and then begins her walk to June's place with Cricket on her shoulder. "What's your little dragon's name?"

"...You know what, that's a good question. Little Dragon is made of...a lot of familiars that ones of me have had, and they had less in common in terms of names than I did."

"Can - he? she? pick a name, or are they less persony than they'd have to be?"

Lucy skritches their head. "They're...hm. They're more persony than most animals are, but they're not really verbal. I think they might have opinions but not generate ideas."

"Fair enough. I used up the only good pet name idea I really had on Cricket, and I don't even know if 'name a critter after another critter' is your style."

"My style is broad enough to encompass the possibility, I think, but I'm not especially drawn to it in this case..."

"What are the dragon's... traits, besides being a cute little dragon? Do they have powers? A favorite food or anything like that?"

"They can breathe the healing-stuff I showed you earlier. Like western dragons are supposed to breathe fire. I can summon them to wherever I am, or go to wherever they are. And...I can see through their eyes, if I want."

"Oh, that's useful. Cricket can navigate in four dimensions but if I call him my familiar I'm mostly just being fanciful. Hmmmm. Crystal, as in crystal ball?"

She checks.

"No, they don't like it."

"Did they say why?"

"I think I said 'not very verbal' earlier."
