"When my brother has all his clothes on he mostly looks like a human. But bigger, lately. But that's his Earth clothes, I don't know if the clothes here will hide the way his legs bend." 

{why would clothes do that?}

"Well, like--if you make it so the clothes are human-shaped even when what's inside them isn't, and you're careful, you can do that."

{but clothes should fit!}

"Yeah. But people wouldn't understand if Wilbur looked like he is. And some people hurt what they don't understand."

{that's terrible,} says the water spirit, hugging Lucy's tentacle.

"Yeah. It is," she says, snuggling the little water spirit back.

Tiny damp hugs.

They are such good hugs. 

"Anyway, we're here now and there's no one but us and you spirits and spirits are good and nice and clothes fit and things are better." 

{it's good that things are better. I want you to have clothes that fit and not people who hurt you.}

"Oh, nobody hurt me, I'm invisible and didn't let them know I existed. But I had to hide a lot. Here is much much better." 

The water spirit gives her tentacle a tiny damp pat. {still good.}

"Yes. Yes it is." Snuggle. "I hope all the spirits are as good as you and forest spirit." 

{I've never seen them but I think they will be.}

"I wonder how high I'm gonna have to climb to meet the cloud spirit." 

{I imagine you'll have to look among the clouds.}

"Yeah but how high up are they. It's kind of hard to tell." 

{This is the highest I've ever been, and I don't see any clouds in reach...}

"And I didn't see any clouds in reach when I was building the sandstone pillar," she says, pointing towards the edifice marking the home island.

{then I guess they must be higher up.}

"Yeah. Maybe I'll build the pillar taller."

{is it safe? what if you fall?}

"If I fall I can catch myself, as long as I just lost my grip and didn't throw myself too far away to grab on." 

{I think I would be scared climbing all the way into the sky on a pillar. Maybe you should wait until you can make wings.}

"...Make wings???" she asks delightedly.
