"That's fair. The bleeding forest was...well, it was bleeding, and that's creepy. It smelled like human blood, too." 

{is that bad?}

"Usually when I can smell human blood it means someone's hurt. Usually when I can smell much human blood it means someone's really really hurt." 

{oh! yes, that does sound bad.}

"As far as I can tell there's nobody who smells human around here, just me and my brother and you spirits, so maybe I'll get over it if it doesn't mean that anymore." 

Thoughtful ocean noises. {there might be more in other places, but I'm not the spirit to ask about that. I'm not sure who is. forest spirit might know.}

"You and forest spirit talk really differently." 

{well, of course! we're different spirits!}

"I don't just mean the thing where you sound different, I mean you...use words differently." 

{what's a word?}

"...I'm not sure how to explain that." 

{okay!} It bounces a little. {we are up very high!}

"We are! Tall trees are really cool. That's why I want some at our base camp." 

{that makes perfect sense.}

"I'll have to hang rope from one if Wilbur wants to climb it. He can't climb like I can." 

{I'm sure I can't climb like you can either! I would need more arms.}

"Hee hee. Yes. Wilbur only has two arms, mostly." 

{mostly?}

"He has some tentacles but they're smaller and shorter and not as strong and he mostly keeps them under his clothes." 

{then it makes sense that they're not very useful for climbing,} the spirit concludes.

"Wilbur is a lot more human than I am." 

{what is a human?}

"Humans are...the thing most people are, back home. They have two arms and two legs and when clothing is in tiny item form it looks shaped like human clothing, but much smaller." 

The spirit makes thoughtful ocean noises again.
