"He really just wanted somebody to tell him not to be scared, I think. So I did that, over and over. Kept promising him that whatever happened, he was going to be okay. He kept trying to send me home, you know? He got all concerned, asking whether you guys would be worried about me, but I said that Regan would cover for me. I think he bought that I wanted to get away from strict parents. Who wouldn't."

Pancakes!

"Did he tell you anything about being turned, Allison?"

"Mostly that it was scary, and that he dropped his inhaler in the woods. He and Stiles were going to go look for it tomorrow, out by the old Hale house. My guess is that I should go with them."

"I'll go too. But -- Hale house? As in Laura Hale, the dead alpha?"

"He didn't mention anything like that, no."

"They've identified the victim, then? You're sure it was one of the Hales?"

"Granddad seemed pretty sure about it. Thinks the omega was Jack Hale."

"Why would they come back here? Kate told your grandfather that she had taken care of the threat. The Hales should know better than to step foot in this town."

"We have his picture, though I don't know if it will help confirm the identification. Since he was a lot younger when it happened."

"That might be good to know, but is it important? We need to find the alpha who turned Scott, and that can't be Jack Hale, right?"

"It's unlikely. Regan said his eyes were blue, and an alpha's eyes are supposed to be red. Allison, you stay focused on pumping the beta for information. Your sister and I will work on following leads relating to the Hales."

"I'll still go with you when you go looking for the beta's inhaler, maybe it'll help foster more closeness between you and him," she says to Allison.

"You can distract Stiles."

"What else do we need to know, Allison."

"Uh, Stiles has a key to the house, his mom has late shifts most nights, he's not used to living without asthma so I think he kind of wants to have an inhaler. If we replace it before he gets used to living without it, it could be a weakness."

"Could definitely be an avenue of control. We should encourage that. He will be weaker for it."

Approving nod.

"In the meantime, I should get you girls to school."

"You know... we are both old enough to drive now, dad."

"I don't see why that has to keep me from my fatherly duties."

"No, this is good. We want him to believe I have strict parents. I shouldn't drive anywhere by myself for at least a week."

"These fake strict parents are a real bummer for me. I didn't even do anything wrong!"

"You can just be along for the ride. Maybe you're the good child."

"This is a strange alternate universe we live in," she says as she takes her last bite of breakfast. "I'm all good to go."

Their father drops them off. He makes a show of arguing with Allison as they leave the car- "worrying your mother sick", "what would your grandmother think", "end up like your aunt"- before driving off.

Allison looks appropriately contrite.
