"No, you have several dozen books. — I guess they're collectively owned books but that makes them kind of yours."

He bounces.

"Thank you thank you thank you thank you-- am I supposed to share mine--"

"You can but honestly I get most of what I read from ao3 and Libgen so if you'd rather keep them you can do that too — oh, man, we need to get you something internet compatible, there are so many books —

"I get a laptop?!"

His tone is rather like the way you'd say "I get a million dollars?!"

"I know — but there's millions upon millions of books and you can just get them for free and you'll never have to be on a bus for an hour and walk for two hours to the library again, and if it lets you get a job that plus the free books means it'll pay for itself and even if you don't get a remote job it's such a quality of life increase —"

"Millions and millions of books?!"

"--I probably can't get a remote job, I'm really dumb, if you wanted me to get a job I was going to babysit."

"...I draw, it doesn't take being smart. Em did data entry for a while and apparently it was mind-numbing. Things you have to be smart to be able to do and things you can do remotely overlap but they're not the same, and anyway even if you don't have a job you should be able to have millions of books and more art and music than I know how to quantify and also the whole rest of the internet, I meant what I said about quality of life increase."

"I could probably do data entry but I like kids."

He shrugs.

"If babysitting makes more sense then it does? I don't mean definitely not babysitting, just that it isn't your only option."

"You guys are so nice to me."

"You're so easy to be nice to."

Leo cuddles him and reads his book.

"Hey," softly from the doorway.

Leo looks up and freezes.

He's smiling.

"Can I join you?"

"Course. — the book you were reading yesterday is on top of the shelf over there, there was stuff on top of it so I moved it —"

Okay. Marlo is fine with it. He's okay with them being affectionate. That-- is unusual, but this is an unusual household in a lot of ways, he shouldn't be that surprised.

Marlo takes the book and, instead of reading it, arranges himself so his head is in Sasha's lap and closes his eyes.

Leo pets Marlo's hair! Because he can do that now! (Eeeeee.)

Apparently everyone in this household makes quiet happy noises when you pet their hair.

What an important discovery!

"I can't wait to go to Salt Lake City."

"If we pack tonight we can go tomorrow — how many days do you think —"

"A week?"

Bounce bounce. "That sounds awesome. I'm already packed and everything."
