She and Gem talk for a long time about how to safely search for Ardas. She is an indestructible magic rock who can teleport and can turn off pain, there is not much disastrous that can happen, but the whole reason they are looking for Ardas is that Ardas tend to have problems, and if she shows up while Eru is involved things could get even worse, so it is worth the time invested in precautions.

There are not many places in Arda that are reliably a safe place to land at any point in the timeline. Eventually they settle on trying a teleport to the air just outside Valinor (they considered targeting for Tol Eressëa, but that will miss Ardas where the Elves are still beside Cuivienen), while in the form of a swift.

She tests that if she is adjacent to an Arda this will work, and she tests that if she has no idea whether she is adjacent to an Arda (Gem teleports her somewhere unfamiliar) this will still work.

And she goes to each of the hundred sixteen worlds that have been discovered so far and she tries to teleport to the air just outside Valinor, and when that fails she tries to teleport to the air half a mile above a Bell, because while she is doing this she might as well check for alts.

(She should check for alts of the Noldor too, of course, but she is confident all Bells will react well to learning they are an interdimensional meddling collective of magic-workers and she is less confident about the alts of the Noldor so she only checks for alts of her wife. All non-Arda Finweans so far have cooccurred with a Bell anyway.)

She is in Aurum now. She tries to teleport to the air just outside Valinor. No. She tries to teleport to the air well above a Bell.

It goes.

"If it seemed expedient to take over the world? Possibly."

Golden's not as good with illusions as Loki but she can still more or less make herself look like Alice, of whom she has an excellent mental image, and go sit down at a computer and look some things up.

"...and she's based in China because China supplied nukes -"

"Which were - used?"

"Looks like. ...Not for the dent, though, that was something else - I don't have enough context for some of this to be comprehensible without more background research -"

"And the stuff we read here probably won't be true if your alt's evil -"

"- looks like there was at the time some confusion about exactly who dented the planet - yeah."

"Um. I don't know what to do -"

"We get a Maitimo and have him meet her, I think."

"Okay. Thanks for - coming by - I would not have thought to check that stuff -"

"I could have missed it too if there hadn't been that store between our convenient alley and the headquarters-looking building she must work in."

She looks at some pictures of a hundred fifty nuclear bombs going off.

She sighs. "Okay. Back?"

"Yeah. Thanks for finding the world."

Golden puts them both back in Aurum and sends a message out through the network, attn: Maitimos, possible evil Bell ruling dented radioactive Earth.

So he pops over to wait patiently outside the not-exactly-a-palace from which Kib and Aydanci rule Shine.

Can Cam or Epic get me documentation on dented radioactive Earth?

Filtering for relevance, be there in a few.

And Cam goes and finds him and hands him a data stick.

"Thanks. Want to come along? I'm inviting Kib once he gets out of this meeting -"

"Might be odd if two people who look like identical twins four years apart go," Cam points out.

"Yeah, true. Edda's on the way to Aurum from here, I can drop in on you if Kib can't make it for some reason.

There are plenty of perfectly good reasons to detonate a hundred fifty nuclear bombs in Earth's atmosphere, I'm sure, but 'had a cancer cure, decided to give literally everyone cancer and then sell the cancer cure' is also consistent with the evidence - though that's stupider than I'd expect an alt of you to be -"

"It seems to have been effective."

"A united Earth is a hell of an achievement, if it wasn't achieved via a lot of mass murder - kind of even if it was -"

"It doesn't look united united, there's still countries, but it's wending that way and not even hollering too much about it -"

"And she's, what, twenty-two, assuming born the same time as the rest of you Earth Bells?"

"Yeah."

"Count me impressed and really hopeful there's a good explanation."

"Likewise. Grab me if you need me, I'll avoid picking up anything I mustn't put down." Cam pops away.

Kib emerges. "What's up?"

"There is a new Bell. She is ruling her Earth. Her radioactive Earth which is missing most of the eastern United States and the Caribbean, and which is radioactive because she detonated a couple hundred nuclear bombs, and that's all in the very-positive-about-her official records. There are aliens, including some on the Moon, and her title is Imperatrix Isabella and there's faster-than-light travel and she's 22."
