When Sasha is walking home from school, he stumbles across the smallest and most adorable dog in the world.
"I think most fields are advancing faster than you'll be able to keep up with them but maybe you'll prove me wrong!"
Once they get to the school, Leo explains that he's a transfer student and the paperwork hasn't come through yet.
The teacher seems weirdly incurious about the subject.
And then Leo can learn all about Romeo and Juliet and what a play is!
It's very exciting!
Leo gets easy 100%s on every math test and science test. His first US history essay is returned covered with question marks and a "F, see me," perhaps because it was a passionately written explanation of why slaves should have just been more obedient and then their masters would not have whipped them. After that he decides to consult with Sasha to get his approval of the essays before he turns them in.
He takes notes enthusiastically in class, sometimes about the topic of the class, and sometimes sketches of the other students' clothing and transcriptions of their accents and elaborate diagrams of the social relationships in the classroom.
When he's not at school or doing homework or reading, he's mostly a dog. It's... easier, he thinks, when he can put his head in Sasha's lap when he's accidentally made Sasha sad, and when it's obvious to everyone that he's very young and he's not human, and when his thought process isn't constantly interrupted with "Sasha is INCREDIBLY CUTE and you should KISS HIM. Remember kissing? Kissing is FUN."
He stays human once and tries masturbation. He is not really sure what humans get out of it. Maybe he's not doing it right.
Sasha and Marlo give him more orders, mostly without meaning to; he executes them flawlessly. Unicorns are less scary than he was led to believe.
He sings the competence song and the floaty song and the sleep song to Sasha whenever Sasha wants it.
None of the other dog commands they test turn out to be spells.
Lilith doesn't appear to notice that the new kid who keeps clinging to Sasha and giving weird answers in class was the dog she had for an hour and a half. Mostly she seems consumed with some incomprehensible lesbian social drama in which she was Wronged and she was going to Extract Vengeance. (Lev draws a diagram of it to try to follow it.)
If Sasha and Marlo are paying attention, they might notice that people who do things Lilith doesn't like have... bad things... happen to them. A kid who doesn't help her with her homework gets into a car accident and breaks his arm. A girl who turns her down for a date discovers her parents are divorcing. A guy who doesn't give her candy for lunch has a panic attack in class so bad he screams.
...Sasha gets more and more nervous around Lilith. As with most things, this mostly manifests in trying to make sure she never has a chance to notice him. He follows the lesbian social drama, partially because if he doesn't follow it there's always the risk that he'll be caught up in it but mostly because it's not a huge school and there are only so many queer kids there and he follows the gossip about most of them.
He consults on Leo's essay topics and explains why certain subjects aren't appropriate, which things have cultural baggage they aren't explicitly teaching, and what might be a better alternative. He debates asking Leo to teach him math and science and then he remembers hiding in the bathroom on his way to fourth period and doesn't do that.
Not all of his homework gets done, but most of it does; his grades improve dramatically. His concentration in class does not.
In the afternoon he cuddles Leo and cuddles Marlo and talks about books and magic; once he and Marlo leave Leo in a different room so he can read and they can make out and if they go a little farther than making out, well, that's their business.
Marlo still asks for reality checks every so often. Sasha gives them.
He has Leo sing him to sleep every night.
Asher is BORED. Being a vampire is BORING.
He's between shows right now because even vampiric grace and strength and beauty can't save you from the whims of choreographers. He's not in the mood to prove theorems or study physics. The journal rejected his last paper because he "didn't have any institutional affiliation" and he thought about it but probably eating a journal editor would not solve this problem. He kidnapped a cute girl and fulfilled all her wildest sexual fantasies for ten days and then ate her while she begged him to keep feeding, and it was hot at the time but in retrospect was probably a waste of a perfectly good sex slave.
He goes down to the coffeeshop to pick up a bagel and maybe some of the food that walks around on two legs.
The plan when Sasha left the house was to go to the coffee shop and get hot chocolate and madeleines so he could show Leo how they taste.
He does not actually make it to the coffee shop.
That is a very hot piece of food with a great ass.
"Hello," Asher says, "sorry, I know this is kind of weird, but I just wanted to say that you're cute."
The extremely good-looking stranger walks three steps up a wall then somersaults off it.
"What are you up to this fine day?"
"Cool, I was heading to the coffeeshop too. Wanna walk there together?"
That's a little weird. Not a lot weird but a little weird.
"Sure," he says, casual.
Asher's stomach grumbles.
On one hand, seducing your food is fun. On the other hand, he's hungry, and fucking your food is also fun, and it doesn't seem like this food is super in the mood to flirt.
He catches Sasha's eyes. "Actually," he says, in an odd tone of voice, "the thing you want to do is to go back to my place and fuck me."
....his eyes are really pretty. Dark and deep and...
"...yeah," Sasha says, dreamier than he'd intended.
Asher scoops him up.
"Let's go. It's only a short way. What's your name?"
He's really, really strong. Being held feels โ solid, warm, stable. Safe. Loving, just a little.
"Sasha. What's yours?"
Sasha is, at this point, too far under to notice how fast they're going or how fast normal people move.
"...sorry," and it comes out a sigh, 'I'm not... great... at hearing people."
"It's normal," he says, reassuringly, and unlocks his door and presses Sasha up against the wall and kisses him.
...๐.
Asher's so strong and solid and Sasha's so safe here, nothing can hurt him while he's in Asher's arms, all he has to do is relax and let Asher take care of him and...
Asher kisses down his neck and then bites and starts to suck.
Sasha tastes delicious. He really needed this.
Sasha couldn't struggle if he wanted to, and why would be ever want to, it feels so good, the most intense pleasure he's ever had coursing through his veins, like orgasm and afterglow and the very best things people say about drugs; he's limp and moaning in Asher's arms, under Asher's mouth.
