“What underlying incentives made this start happening, is it in fact being done by Rohner, what’s the context for the interaction that made you flee the room.”

She settles her chin on top of the pillow.

"Yeah, it's her.  It was - back before Hana and I started dating, but I was still living there and knew about vampires and stuff, and she lived there too, and it was - the worst, I hated her, we got into fights all the time - she misgendered me literally constantly, before I was passing - and it got to the point where she kicked me out, basically.  But before I finished packing, she was like, 'Or....', and.  So.

"And she'd let it go when she left places and put it back when she came back, and I just.  Let it happen, until today I didn't.  And then I - I didn't want to have to try to talk around it or explain it to you in front of her."

Her voice is relatively level for most of it, although it slips out of her control a bit towards the end.

Why does nobody ever tell her anything. 

“Would you also like to be in a different hotel.”

"I - hadn't thought about that?  Uh, we're only here a couple days, I can probably avoid her except to finish that conversation.  But - maybe.  - I don't have money, though.  Like, at all."

Jaime gracefully refrains from commenting on how she literally has magical powers and could have solved this problem at any point in the past several months. 

“I can in fact afford a two-bed hotel room for a few nights. Or more than that, if Hana also dislikes abusive rich people with bad taste in curled side bangs and ethics. Is Hana also being mind controlled.”

She is probably the most graceful person on the planet, after all.

"I don't know if like....this instant.  But definitely ever, yeah.  I guess we could check."

“It’s friendly enough to wear off over time?”

"Yeah."

How polite.

”Anything else you want to mention before we check that.”

"Well, were you going to or should I."

Is this important enough to actually use strong vocal emphasis, yes actually it is.

“It would be less invasive coming from you. Is there anything else you would like to tell me.”

" - Even if she's not literally this instant, I'm pretty sure there was a lot of it for the first several years they were together, and I think maybe she has fine enough control that there were lasting nonmagical effects."  She checks.  "It's totally literally this instant though.  I can't tell how much without moving it."

“Is there some reason why you shouldn’t attempt to reverse the mind control that your girlfriend is currently experiencing.”

"I can see why you would think that would help but I think it actually wouldn't at all.  ...It's not - she doesn't just get us with her superior firepower.  There's only so much you can get away with when the people you're controlling can feel what you're doing and have the ability to stop you, so she, y'know, asked first, and stopped when I pushed against her, and it wasn't - I didn't ever want to, but she didn't just go around pulling at things however she felt like it; she came up with things that sounded at least sort of reasonable and stuck with them.  So I think putting Hana back without talking to her first probably doesn't get us anything but letting them know something's up."

“Do you have a sense of her overall skillset.”

"Kimberly's or Hana's?  And also magically or in general."

“Rohner’s. I don’t think we’re on a first name basis. And I’ll settle for a broad outline.”

"Uh, keeping in mind that I don't really know what she's been up to recently, I think she was working mostly on flying, side of teleportation and maybe some stamina boosts back when she lived with us.  She's got to have a fair amount of relationship adjusting, obviously - it seems likely that she went in for the mind-reading but I don't actually know.  Uh, she's in like her late fifties I think, so I guess anti-aging?  Probably some sensory stuff.  I guess at this point I'm just making guesses based on what I expect vampires in general to go for, rather than stuff I know about her personally.

"Also, uh, call her 'Kim' or 'Kimmy' to her face if you actively want to piss her off, which.  Please don't.  More than you already did."

“I hear provoking people is one of the best ways to get to know them. What does she do to people who annoy her.”

"I mean, mind control, if you do it for months.  Uh, she's probably not going to do anything for the amount you did already?  Probably?  I'm mostly worried about Hana, I think, but I don't have, like, specific guesses about what might happen or anything."

“I don’t have enough information here to interfere in any meaningfully productive way. I’m going to another hotel, if you’d like to follow me I can pay for your room.”

".....Okay.  Uh, why.  - I have like, guesses, but I don't know what mix it is or whatever."

“I’m not going to continue provoking an older vampire with known and terrible ethics, and unknown and expansive abilities, without much better reasons to do so than have been presented.”

"Not to, uh.  Possibly you should still leave, but.  That kind of sounds like it might be more provoking than just staying here and not....getting into fights with her on purpose.  If.  Yeah."
