"All countries do. --well, all the ones that deserve the title, at least."

She has, well, a lot, of questions, about how does her society function, why are you not swimming in artists, how does the eugenics happen, but she's not an anthropologist-- and in some ways those questions don't matter. Partially because her society may just be so alien that questions about 'eugenics' and 'function' are wrongly put. But partially because there is a much larger question that looms over everything.

(that looms over the self sitting in front of her, looms over the handshake, looms and looms and looms.)

A quizzical look. "Literally or figuratively? If one were to be figurative, some would say that Nagash all takes them in the end, or maybe the Rotbringer does.

"But there are some people whose-- purpose, is to remove them? To stop pollution spreading?"

She has some guesses about the answer. She does not like the implications.

"In some places, I imagine. I don't know the details." She shrugs. "It'd be needed Shyish, I'd guess, such things are higher stakes there.

But this pollution-- it sounds like your 'auction system,' or my 'magic,' a concept that is not fully shared."

"Pollution is-- things that are unclean. Wrong. Dead bodies. Sewerage. Trash. --reds.  Things one should not come into contact with, because if you do, you become polluted as well."

"We have things that are unclean--" and her compatriot breathes a sigh of relief "--maybe somewhat different definitions, and somewhat different concerns, I'm not sure if you do it to avoid the attention of Nurgle. But we have a near concept.

How are-- how are these 'reds' unclean?"

"They-- they are. It's inherent. They handled pollution for so long, they stopped being people. Became reds. Became polluted."
