It turns out that, for all the fuss that was made about it, this dance is actually very boring.
This is only just barely a surprise; any event that requires chaperones is an event that Lindsay generally doesn't look forward to. But it is true. Lindsay has had maybe a bit too much to drink, by now — he's accustomed to Bacchanal rites; the feeling is hardly unfamiliar — and successfully slipped away from his chaperone, and yet it is still boring.
"...that isn't particularly reassuring. I'm glad you're all right."
Leo can be smug somewhere else, if he wants, it isn't as if he's unaware that Lindsay also worries about people.
Fine! He will only be slightly smug.
He will also attempt to communicate via his eyebrows that Lindsay should ask about the thing.
Forehead kisses. "You don't have to worry, I can in fact take care of myself."
Lindsay ducks his head. "I am fairly certain that I agreed in front of nearly everyone I know to be the person who waits and worries about you while you — what were you doing?"
"...all right. I won't."
Ash is very warm and Lindsay has been more concerned than he's been letting on.
"I-- have been doing the thing I'm doing for a long time. It is risky but I've survived so far, and I don't think you should be worried." He kisses Lindsay's forehead. "And I have someone to come home to now."
"We cuddled. Leo talked about land rents. It was — good, to have so much time."
Leo is kind of bracing himself for being called a profoundly boring person.
"I'd ask what Leo had to say about land rents but I imagine you don't want to hear it a second time."
"I'd be happy to hear it a second time, but I think Leo could explain better than I can."
Is it possible to totally derail Leo from thinking about Lindsay's new husband's criminal proclivities and/or membership in the cult of Cybele by asking about his research?
...signs point to yes.
