"College boys, K, much more fun than the high school variety. Thinks you're cute, wants us both to head to this frat party later tonight. Should be a good time. You in?"

This sounds like the worst possible use of time that anyone has ever suggested to her in her entire life.

"Sure, what time?"

Thirty minutes later she stops by the gym. "Alex. Something terrible has happened."

"What?"

"Faith invited me to go to a frat party with her and I panicked and was like 'sure, what time?' so I guess now I'm going to a frat party and it's going to be terrible and full of loud music and alcohol and sin."

" - no one's dead or dying, though?"

"No everything's totally fine. Sorry, I should have picked something different to lead with."

"It's okay. Just a long week. Uh, there are little invisible earplugs I use when places are loud and I don't want it to be conspicuous I'm wearing earplugs, you could have a pair of those."

"I guess that might help. It's still going to be full of college students and alcohol and other drugs and probably poison and the stench of evil."

"Is there something I don't know about Sunnydale colleges?"

"I'm pretty sure all college parties are terrible. I guess ones in Sunnydale might be slightly more evil from all of the ambient evil lying around, but I think most of the evil comes from being a college party."

"I support you in opting out of parties that you want to skip. But also alcohol's okay, really, they even have it in paradise."

"It's OK to have it under controlled conditions when you're not surrounded by a bunch of strange older male people, some of whom are probably looking to trick younger girls into drinking stuff and then drugging them and then raping them, and then the younger girls end up pregnant, and they can't be slayers anymore, because what if something punches them in the stomach and their baby dies, and then they're immobilized by grief and they have to drop out of high school and be totally useless forever?

" - I guess I'll probably go and just not drink anything."

"I can, uh, keep an eye out, and go castrate anyone who tries to drug and rape you."

"Please don't do that, but it makes me feel perversely better that you offered. I'll see you tomorrow if I survive."

This is probably a healthy developmental stage or something.

He wishes them both a good evening.

And so Karen and Faith head to a party being hosted by the Delta Zeta Kappas at Crestwood College.

Karen is, like, really bad at existing at parties. Someone hands her a drink and says "It's OK, when I was your age I didn't like grown-up things either" when she says no thank you. Faith ditches her like ten minutes in. At one point someone tries to talk to her and she tries to talk to them and it's the most excruciating three minutes of her life, and after that she just coldly tells everyone that she's studying to be a nun, because for some reason her brain fails to come up with the excuse 'I have a boyfriend'. The same person offers her a drink again, later, and she has to refuse again, and this time he just laughs at her.

At some point she sees Faith stagger off towards a bedroom, obviously really seriously impaired. Karen follows her, and then she hears someone coming and she ducks into a corner because she cannot have any more conversations with anyone tonight. The boy goes into the room, checks that Faith's passed out, and then turns her over. She's about to burst into the room and pin him to a wall when someone else does this for her.

"I wasn't doing anything!" says probably-rapist.

"I saw what you were doing," says probably-against-rape.

"I was just having a little fun," says almost-definitely-rapist.

"Well, she's not here for your fun, you pervert. She's here for the pleasure of the one we serve," says suddenly-very-concerning-guy-who-is-maybe-not-against-rape-after-all.

"In his name," says almost-definitely-rapist.

Heyyyy Alex, remember how I told you this party was definitely gonna be full of poison and rapists and evil? It is somehow even more evil than expected.

- wow. Okay. Why don't you two skip out and wait for reinforcement, we'll be there in ten -

I mean, Faith's unconscious and I think there's another girl in there and I can't really just leave them.

I'm gonna see if they take them anywhere in the next little bit here.

Watch from outside. Please. Surveillance isn't the hard part here, we'll have eyes all over the place as soon as we get close.

Fine, but - just get here, I'm gonna be really sad if anything happens to them in the next ten minutes.

On our way.

Karen reluctantly leaves the unusually evil frat party and waits outside.

He reaches and reaches and reaches with his thoughts until he can get anyone's eyes but Karen's.

There are lots of students partying on the upper levels. In the basement there are fraternity members with robes on, many of them holding knives. There's a teenage girl chained to a wall in the basement, crying as the people around her ignore her and talk about the upcoming sacrifice.

He bounces this to Karen so she can see that nothing awful has happened yet. The Bureau people turn on sirens. They keep driving.
