Well, realistically, Varan's been taking insane risks for a long time now. Being eaten by some kind of monster on the road isn't really surprising.
Surviving it is!
[We... don't have those. People have religions but no such mechanism as that for telling who is correct about them.]
[Wow. ...Nobody could live on Golarion if no gods had ever done anything obvious. I think. Maybe someone could have survived the Age of Darkness just by using arcane magic - that’s the time when the sun didn’t shine well enough to grow plants because of all the ash in the sky.]
[I think mages could mitigate something like that now but eclipsed - that's our magic people collectively, both kinds - being abundant is actually a pretty recent phenomenon.]
[Huh. Well, I guess I’m glad you didn’t have any asteroids hit your planet before eclipsed were common.]
[And these days we'd see them coming before any mages had to respec too aggressively. Anything you need me to tell Jackson for you? - he says you can have some of the pasta.]
[I actually packed food but it’ll keep and maybe the pasta won't. You could tell him I appreciate the kindness everyone's been showing me?]
[...pasta is very inexpensive, I really don't think they will begrudge you a plateful.]
Jackson's on it, he makes a face in response to telepathy from Bella and dishes up a third plate. Rotini in marinara.
It’s tolerable and lets him save his travel food for later.
[Did you have other questions about Golarion?]
[Loads, I'm just not sure where to start and also you're probably pretty overwhelmed so I'm not sure you want to draw a map or tell me more magic stuff right this second.]
[Well, today I set out to go someplace I'd never been before without any particular reason to go in the specific direction I was headed instead of some other direction, and I only didn’t get a teleport there because that would have been so expensive and I was curious about all the random stuff I would see along the way. So this is kind of like everything going according to plan. I don't know, I wouldn't really call myself overwhelmed. If Jackson wants to spare the paper, I can try to draw a map. I might not get everything right but I can try.]
[Are there people on your planet you'd like contacted? - Jackson's getting you paper.]
[Of course I can't read this script and probably it makes more sense for you to tell me how to pronounce all these labels rather than for me to hire an omniglot.]
