Well, realistically, Varan's been taking insane risks for a long time now. Being eaten by some kind of monster on the road isn't really surprising.
Surviving it is!
[I want to hear about Golarion! You don't have to like, try super hard about it, I expect I'll pick up a lot of what I want to know in the course of getting you on your feet here just by contrast. Jackson and Brian, the couple you landed on, are going to put you up for tonight, and in the morning - unless you have some objection but I've only talked them into the one night - you'll be able to get on a passenger flying vehicle out to where I can pick you up.]
[...Okay. I can talk about Golarion. I haven't been on a flying vehicle before, that sounds cool.]
[They are actually not super comfortable because it's cheaper per person that way but I can try to get you a window seat so you can at least have a nice view.]
[No promises on the window seat, it's short notice for a flight first thing tomorrow morning, but I'll try. I'm Isabella, what's your name?]
[Nice to meet you. Anything you need in the shortish term that I should needle Jackson and his dom about for you?]
[I really didn't mean to impose and I did pack for a trip, I could get out of their hair if I knew of another safe place to sleep.]
[Getting you to a hotel and then the airport is more steps than just putting you up in their guest room.]
[Jackson says he's going to get the bed made up, wants to know if you're going to want a shower tonight.]
[...do you know what it is. Does your planet have indoor hot running water.]
[Okay, well, it's sort of like high-pressure rain, customizable temperature, in a section of a room where it drains away, most adults in this country take showers regularly, Jackson's going to get you soap and a towel and some spare clothes of his to change into.]
[That sounds nice! I've just used a cloth to wash with since my mother stopped doing magic for it. Is that the kind of thing you want to know about Golarion or were you hoping for more politics and stuff?]
(Jackson emerges from the spare room, points at the made bed, and then busies himself getting shower objects.)
[My mother wasn't a great wizard or anything. My sister might be but that'd be why she went to school in the capital and I never heard from her again. I did live in a city with a wizard school but not for very long. So I mostly know about the most common kinds of magic - you know, cleaning, temporary writing, magic floating discs for tossing luggage onto. I know there are people who can heal or teleport or talk in people's heads like you're doing, but not people I know very well. I don't have a spellbook to show you or anything.]
[So, I don't actually know those 'common' kinds of magic, which makes me think you've got some totally different kind of magic going on! For reference on Earth we've got two kinds of magic, psions and mages - I'm a psion, so is Jackson, most people aren't either. Mages do physical effects and psions do things without physical effects.]
[...That's weird. Wizards do magic with books and sorcerers do it without books and clerics do it with the help of the gods and some people do it by singing and some people are dragons and dragons can do whatever they want. And paladins are like clerics but Good and they mostly kill people who are Evil instead of doing cleric things like healing and feeding people.]
[Ooh, you've got dragons, that's exciting! And... a concerningly warlike religion situation?]
[I don't know any dragons, either. They're cool, though. They can fly. I... also don't know any gods... but I did grow up with a religion? I don't know, do you have questions about the religion situation?]
[I would like to know more about the religion situation! People get magic from being religious?]
[...Yes? There are gods. They give people magic - for making food and healing people and visiting other planes and sending souls to specific afterlives - and I guess besides gods giving people things in exchange for their service part of the reason they give clerics magic is probably so people know who's telling the truth about them? I'm not a cleric so you can figure I don't know as much about any gods as I would if I were, I guess.]
