"Of course they will. What happened when you got out of there?"

"Wisps attacked me, pretty much right away - they were spirits of mischief, and I talked most of them down." Tiny smile. "I even convinced one that it'd be in its nature to retrieve a weapon for me. It brought me a rather nice dagger, and apparently dream weapons are exceptionally easy to hide. That came in handy, later."

"As long as you didn't promise anything..."

"Not a thing - the one who fetched the dagger did follow me for some entertainment, but I didn't actually offer that."

"All right."

"I was keeping my wits about me - and none of the spirits managed to trick me, either. There was actually a demon pretending to be a previous student, who was killed after taking too long in the Fade; I did decide to play along, see what would happen - he was actually helpful for a bit, until we ran into a Desire demon. They'd pretty clearly set up their skit ahead of time - he'd promised to bring me to her, reneged on his deal, etcetera etcetera - I'm not sure what the conclusion of that little story would've been, because I got tired of hearing it and stabbed him."

"And apparently a dagger wound to the top of the thoracic spine isn't enough to immediately drop a Pride demon, even one currently in a human shape. It weakened him, though, and he didn't reorient to what was happening fast enough, so I was able to finish him off - fortunately, the Desire demon didn't pitch in. She and Mischief just watched the show."

"Characteristic of you. In style, result, and risk."

She laughs. "I'm not that bad."

"No, you really are." Kiss.

Kiss! "If the gallant Ser Briony insists, I suppose it must be so."

"I would know better than anyone else."

"You know me better than I know myself, it seems."

"An outside perspective is helpful, sometimes."

"Essential."

"Good thing you have me, then."
