"Nicer than here, that's for hairpetting sure."

Allandur blinks and then sighs very softly and then keeps asking mildly interesting questions that don't touch on anything important like the 'balrog's capabilities or the war situation, for the linguists' sake, for the rest of the trip.

They fly over bombed-out wasteland and more bombed-out wasteland and then a lot of wasteland that doesn't look bombed-out at all, though there's nothing growing in it, and then land quite abruptly in the foothills of a mountain range. The plane taxies indoors.

Jim is irritable the entire time and the balrog is silent.

The interior hangar bay is vaulted and elaborate and gorgeous in approximately the style of a cathedral. Looking immensely relieved to be here, Allandur leaps out and then lingers to help them get down if they need to. The plane is meant for people slightly larger than them.

The balrog flares his wings to fall gracefully. Jim accepts a hand down. She seems confused by the decor.

"This is Helevorn," Allandur says tentatively in English.

"It's pretty," says Jim.

"Yes. That is why we wanted to talk here, not there. You can stay until we learn how to send you to Sydney."

"Thanks. Are the icky folks going to be okay?"

"We took them to safety. Why, uh - never mind. Did they explain anything when you talked to them?"

"Nah, not really, they knew fuckall."

"Melkor keeps his people not-knowing because otherwise they would not kill for him as happily. Did they say why they were in our land?"

"No, but they didn't seem to like being there."

"Can the balrog hear? Read? Can he write things to us?"

"Yeah, it can hear and read, in languages it speaks. I can let it write."

"I don't know how to read your language but maybe our people could learn that."

"You seem really quick, yeah."

"It's not me, other people are teaching me."

"...you have people who speak English somewhere?"

"No, but other people are fast learners."

"That's wild."

"Wild?"

"Uh, it's really impressive."

"Would you like to keep talking to people or would you and the balrog like to go to rooms and rest? I don't know how long you were with the orcs..."

"A while, I am kinda bushed," Jim admits. "The demon's allowed to caffeinate itself, it's not tired."
