They've been in Sothis for a while, and Eriape has finally finished the Badger House. It is, of course, shaped like a badger.
It is also made of sandstone, smack in the center of Sothis, and quite big.
"Well, I'll think about it. But if I try it and I don't like it it'd be really hard to put back, so I want to be really conservative there."
"A Raise Dead is Easily Sourced in this City, but Expensive. Good to be Sure. Think about It!"
Nod. “And a Raise Dead won’t cover it if you’ve been undead, and a Resurrection is even more expensive. If we thought we could reasonably save up for one we’d want it for Mama.”
"Too long for the Cheapest Type of Clerical Resurrection. And you are Sure she would not Prefer to Be a Badger?"
“…I am…surer that she would be fine with being a badger in Nirvana than that she would be fine being an undead badger.”
"We Could Ask! Eriape has a Spell for Speaking with Dead! She made an Arcane Version of the Popular Divine One!"
“I think at some point we have to stop being surprised that she’s accomplished incredibly cool shit.”
“…Seeing it isn’t the problem, just, I don’t—know how to do it as painlessly as possible. …Actually if it’s possible I’d like to hold her hand while it happens.”
"If the Heart was cut Fully Apart, That would Work and Be Quick, unless she was a Very Great Adventurer"
Jac looks at Luzai with some sympathy.
"There's a roof terrace with a gorgeous view, upstairs. You can see the ocean, and the ships coming in. There's even some plants."
The roof terrace is everything that's promised, with splendid view of Sothis, looking down at the port, coated with rugs. A cluster of Avistani plants are planted in pots rimmed with carefully glazed dancing badgers. The multi-hued sails of the ships coming into port dance across the bright water. It is somewhat above the city din, and every so often there's the sound of a sea bird.
