They've been in Sothis for a while, and Eriape has finally finished the Badger House. It is, of course, shaped like a badger.
It is also made of sandstone, smack in the center of Sothis, and quite big.
Nod nod. "Definitely Istraya--she's the cleverest and the least healthy of us--he thinks she's the best result he got, it's not like the fact that she bruises in a stiff wind will matter if she becomes undead. I...think probably any of the rest of us could refuse and he wouldn't care much."
Eriape pops her head in through a doorframe.
"Lich is Much Better! No Dependency on the Living! Sustained by your Skill in Magic Alone! Also you can Keep your Skin! Or there is the Grand Zombification that I do with the Badgers. Could Send her a Letter to Let her Know you managed to Escape Successfully and Give her some Tips!"
"I'm not gonna lie, lichdom sounds a lot better compared to vampirism if you can keep your skin. I'd never heard of a lich doing that before."
The "compared to vampirism" part is important because she in fact has less than zero desire to be any kind of undead.
"I'm Luzai! And this is my brother Villibor, and," her smile wavers, "our mother, Ruvina."
"Hello! I like music! Are you flirting with me and that's why you're mostly talking to me and not my brother, or is it just that obvious that I'm more comfortable talking to people, between the two of us."
"Most song-sorcerers would have started flirting with your brother, but I can tell these things."
Jac switches modes in an instant. "Oh, you're here to sing! Amazing! We could use more non-undead voices. So Eriape likes songs about badgers and/or herself, but I'm sure we can convince her-"
She nods along. "Not that I'm opposed to singing about her, or badgers--actually before she rescued us from a giant undead worm I'd never seen a badger before."
"Worm? That's strange, this isn't really the season for giant undead worms."
He pulls open his satchel. "I have a songbook here, just in case Eriape ever changes her mind."
Jac holds out the book to her, and nods at Villibor. "Yeah, they spend time deep below the sands, and they sometimes move up to the surface about the same time as the spring floods."
"Is there a known necromancer behind this, some kind of underground energy emanation, some other known source, some unknown source..."
"Nope! Nobody knows why! I expect someone will find out one of these days, probably by raiding a tomb. That's usually how it goes in Osirion. I do it a bit myself."
