I picked a different universe for us to hang out in because I don't know what the magic does and it might be dangerous.

"Pretty sure it is, if you use it wrong. We can ask Draconis about it once he's willing to hang out in your... place."

If you run on magic or something it's possible something weird will happen when you leave your universe. I've never heard of people who couldn't leave their universe but I haven't heard of a universe like yours either. 

"Hmm," says Aria, because this is a really important thought and - "You can only teleport physical stuff, right?"

I mean, Elves have souls and that works fine for us when we teleport. 

"It's not that, exactly." She chews her lip. "Is there a cooldown, can you bring someone right back if something goes wrong?"

Yes.

"All right, then. Me first." I'm probably not gonna collapse, but if Draconis or the big statue-looking person follow us over after this, then you watch them, OK?

Yeah. - are you sure you don't want me to try, like, an animal or something, if you think the local magic might be sustaining everyone -

"That might be smart." I'm really pretty sure that animals aren't the same as people in the relevant ways, and since you have to test it on one person before others I do want that person to be me, but as long as it doesn't cost you anything to try a squirrel or something first, go for it.

I can do that. - well, if I find a squirrel.

He sets out to attempt that.

"Testing it on a squirrel first. He's a very responsible scientist."

"I see."

But not experienced at squirrel hunting! He gets one eventually and teleports it and him out of the universe.

The squirrel is distressed and confused, but otherwise unharmed.

He takes it back with him. Okay, we can try you now.

"Cool. Thank you for your service," she adds, to the squirrel.

Pop.

"Pretty sure I'm still alive," she says brightly, and then looks around. "And we're where, exactly?"
