See and now he's made Cam sad mature communication really does not have much to recommend it.

"And now we get to play 'how long is a couple months for anybody else'..." Sigh. Away he walks.

He at least tries. He gives it six subjective months.

Cam doesn't bug him about it. Cam makes things and flies around and plays violin and reads and is very hard to catch at wagging his tail.

Well, what is he really good at? Lying. He's fantastic at that.

So after six months he says to Cam, "I had a setting idea, what do you think of it?"

"I'm still not chipped and cannot read your mind, you will have to actually describe it to me."

"Right, right, I just meant, is it a good time to run it by you."

"Yeah, sure, you're all - undistracted or whatever you were doing?"

"Over you? Yes. You were very hard to get over, if you're the sort of person who takes that as a compliment. So the setting..."

Cam looks like he isn't sure if it's a compliment or not, but he will listen attentively to the setting with one and a half tail-wags and play the game.

He will be not at all distracted, he will play like winning the game means winning Cam somehow which is not how anything works, he will be very back to normal.

It's very impressive. Cam loses.

"I'm glad you're up to it again."

"Write any good songs lately?" Cam wonders. "Or is that not part of the process?"

"They all seem pretty ridiculous in hindsight. I guess that's what a crush will do to you."

"Should I not have asked, is this like asking to read people's awkward middle school goth poetry or something?"

"I don't think I have the right cultural reference points. If I write a pretty song I will let you know all about it."

"Okay. None of mine have lyrics, that puts a ceiling on how embarrassing they can be."

"Ah, see, all Elf songs are meant for singing."

"Well, not all of it, but certainly most, and even the songs that don't have words people'll invent words to sing to them. We really like singing."
