"Jarizana doesn't think you're really fluent in a language until you can write poetry in it."

"You'd like my father," he says to her, "he has both a gift for languages and an obsession with them."

"That is a positive set of traits!"

"I think so too!"

"And it's good for a king to speak a lot of languages."

"Definitely. It hasn't come up much but now that we've got means of contacting worlds it'll come up more, one imagines."

"Almost certainly."

"He was very excited about contact with new worlds, for mostly that reason."

"Aww."

"Are we certified aliens, or is there more to check?"

"That's everything."

"Thank you very much. I will endeavor to introduce you to more interesting aliens."

"I look forward to it."

"Where next?"

"If I talk to some people this evening I should be able to get someone a few links up the chain to talk to you tomorrow morning."

"Thanks so much."

"You're very welcome. Do you have arrangements for the night?"

"If it's not absurdly convenient for you to get us something we'll go hang out orbiting your planet."

"I don't think I would describe it as absurdly so, no."

"Then we'll do that. I assume if we strike up conversations with any of your neighbors that will somehow complicate your life?"

"Oh, I suppose, but feel free to do it anyway."

"Thank you. We'll be back here tomorrow morning, then. Want anything before we go?"
