Because of the Late Tragedy, this Issue of the Badger will not contain its Usual Material. Instead, it will Feature an Interview with our Lost Urchin, Brisa, taken From Us By Fires caused by the Lawless and Anarchic Conduct of Men this Last Night. We issue this Pamphlet Purely in the Public Interest, as not Many have the Necessary Strength in the Obverse Power to Conduct such a Postmortem Interview.

1: “Urchin Brisa, Recount for us the Events of Last evening!”

"It all went to hell so fast, Lady Eriape. I got this fancy warning earlier, from you- right in my brain. Said trouble was brewing. But Mom... she ain't been able to get around well for years now. I couldn't just leave her, you know? Thought we'd be okay. Then the shouting started. Before we knew it, the whole block was up in flames"

2: “What do you Think Ignited this Anarchic Conduct?"

"Oh, it'd been building for a while, m'lady. Folk thought things would get better.. Then some hothead goes and makes a speech, saying how we're still under the thumb, just a different thumb."

3: "Brisa, why Remain with your Mother when Danger Loomed, rather being Evacuated out of Westcrown by the Faithful Friends of the Badger

"Leave Mom? No- Badger work, it helped us scrape by, but I couldn't just abandon her when things got rough."

4: "Describe your Final Moments. What do you Recall?"

“I tried... I tried so hard to keep my mother safe. I opened the window, to, you know, let the smoke out. Thought if I just held on, and screamed, someone would come. Then the smoke - it got too much, and we was only coughing.”

5: "Brisa, your Loyalty to the Badger was Unwavering in life. Would you Consider Continuing your service as an Undying Creature?"

“I don't want to. Let some other kid take the job, yeah? They need the chance more than I need to come back.”

The Badger apparently interacts regularly with urchins…

She isn’t going to let Gabi leave the monastery (disguised as an urchin or not) until she’s 16.

Fascinating.  Assuming the last question isn’t some obvious loyalty test or cruel joke, Lady Eriape is capable of both some level of concern and care for the preferences of her (formerly?) mortal servants.  Unusual, especially considering the mindset her pamphlets imply.  Eh, it’s probably a setup to a cruel joke.

Also her usage of speak with dead implies Eriape is a cleric (with what wisdom?), an unusual type of spellcaster, or that she’s managed to stabilize speak with dead as a wizard spell?  Fascinating.

(Estella has overlooked the obvious possibility of a wand or scroll of speak with dead, but to be fair to her, the common sense solution is a lot less likely when Eriape is involved.)
